Why is there so little outrage over social security for our current generations?

It's pretty clear we are all paying a decent bit into something that will never be available for us. Why does it seem that is a-ok to most everyone?

Because it come straight out of the paycheck and people don't miss what they never had.
All taxes should have to be paid by the taxpayer themselves. Employer withholding should be illegal.

The reason is because our younger generation only wants to hear the voice of the short-term solution obsessed minority. 30 years down the line there will be outrage as everyone in the 18-30 generation who did not save realize they will have to work until death.

I think because most people these days are saving and investing on their own so they don't have to worry about social security.

This.
If the average middle class person had to write a $5k+ check to the government every year, you'd see a groundswell for tax reform and spending cuts.

Mainly because I have no intent to ever get it so I'm doing my own thing. Just chalking it up as a charitable contribution at this point .

Its not ok with me, but nothihg I can do about it. This is actually one of the bigger silent issues in our country at the moment.
I have yet to hear a good idea for a replacement that won't miss ppl off. There absolutely needs to be an exit strategy from this.
Every time I look at my 401k and see the expected income when I retire I always laugh bc it shows like $400 from SS or whatever the number is.
I don't know why ppl can't just choose low risk retirement alternatives for this instead of SS taxes. Or hell, don't even make ppl save for retirement if they don't want to.
No one ever brings this up like you mentioned. I don't get it either.

They have been saying for a long time that Social Security won't be available. But it is still here. I don't think it is going anywhere.

We should try filing that on our taxes

Well, you know, you can't spend what you ain't got.
You can't lose what you ain't never had.

And for that very reason it will never be privatized to end up like trump air or trump university. .

Bingo.
Or simply place the tax on consumption, not revenue.

There will be outrage, but not because of the then younger generation. It'll be for the people trying to retire that paid into SS that get pennies on the dollar for what they paid in and have to work until death.
If this were a truly fair system, people would have the option to opt out and get a straight return of all monies paid in at any point.
It's a giant Ponzi scheme right now.

Correct, we will just continue to go deeper and deeper in debt. A debt that will never be paid.

Because we've been taught since we started school it won't be there.
