Why is the country/this board so polarized?

Honest inquiry. Why do you think we have arrived at such a state of affairs. You see it here, you see it in the news, you see it in D.C. seems to be just rampant "us against them" mentality.

Because the left is dragging this country to the irresponsibly absurd far left, and Americans are sick of it.

A lot of it started with the Karl Rove types that divided parties and people along social issues because they would give more money on those things.

When you pit earners against takers, there is bound to be animosity.

It's been like this for 150 years. Intern et and cable news just make it more visible

Divisiveness is my #1 issue I'd like to see radically changed in our political theater.

I've tried to tone down my own rhetoric among friends and others while talking politics.

on this board, many do it for entertainment.

In Washington, it's pure political games.. I hate it!

on the news, it's how ratings are made I suppose.

It's an ugly game out to gain an advantage to hold power, but in the end, are there any winners?

In summary, we lack humility and respect for one another... If we can hold up others as better than ourselves, then we can achieve greatness.

The parties want people to think there are differences so they get fired up and vote for their chosen party.

The 'right' and 'left' are actually similar in several fundamental ways.

One side is all about change (they call themselves progressives; what do they want to progress towards or anyway from?) while the other side says "don't risk what has worked for what sounds good". And a lot is on the line.

I'm serious LaPlace, I'd really like to know what your opinion is as to why.

Its a two party system. The world is always coming to an end if you are the other side

Because of people like this, who don't think independently and just go "THE RIGHT IS BAD" or "THE LEFT IS BAD"

I place zero importance on thinking independently. I place all the importance on being correct, and the correct lines up with our founding principles of government. That which deviates from that is fricking wrong, right or left It's that simple. I'm not married to a party,

Because it is "us against them" and the stakes couldn't be higher.

Your argument is an emoticon? I'm to take you seriously?

It kicked into overdrive in 1988 with Lee Atwater, Bush Sr's campaign manager. He was later stricken with cancer and offered a mea culpa saying he regretted some of the hard core tactics he pioneered. Late 80's is when the culture wars started getting intense although I think it really got started with the chaos of the sixties.

This isn't an argument. No sense in me arguing with you in this thread. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about whether your thought process is valid or not. That won't get me anywhere.

Yet, you throw out an emoticon?

Let me splain... Cults are independent. That doesn't make their belief system right, just because they're independent from mainline thought.

Does that register?
