Good grief, for real? Saying 'greatest ally' right at this moment is significant. Trying to shoehorn a ranking of ALL nations or in the tinderbox that is the Middle East is just spin. Sure, France helped us with our fight for Independence, then England has been our longest ally, which understandably has the most ties to us. It's politics.
But I've always understood that Israel IS our biggest ally IN THE MID EAST, so whoever is repeating that line over and over should clarify with that qualifier.
Time and place. I swear, some would rather argue minutia more than substance.
