this, a lot of them fear conservatives as wanting a Christian nation. Not a secular one.

Right. The gospels have been debated for millennia and people still can't agree on what Jesus really said or believed or wanted. There are new books written every year due to this.

True, but it is highly unlikely that Christ or any of the various prophets of Mideast origin would have included Westerners in any movement they would have started, considering the general notion of the earliest civilizations in the Middle East regarding Indo-Europeans of any kind. Westerners were regarded as dogs and sub-human primitives to the Semitic peoples.

Or, by the time of Jesus, violent oppressors.

think for the Jews who scoff at Christianity, it's less a case of "white people taking a middle eastern religion and bastardizing it" than "Christianity is based on the idea of a defeated and resurrected spiritual messiah which is utter nonsense because there is no basis for this in scripture and we certainly know scripture."

It's the "only-child" syndrome. Doesn't feel as special when you have to share daddy.

Ultimately though, according to Scripture, the Jewish people have been "blinded" (like Pharoah in Egypt) until the body of Christ is complete.

I'm not sure the Jews viewed Rome as barbarians. And I'm pretty sure they didn't view the Greeks as barbarians, considering the Hellenization which had spread across the land.

The rabbis might respond "how presumptuous of you to tell us what our scriptures say."

@ those Pharisees. Clean on the outside, but inwards are filthy. Knowledge is power, & Scripture is the one thing I can count on to remain unchanged in my life.

They hate that they can't control me by manipulating that.

Are you being serious? Romans were as brutal as ISIS at the time.

You may be right about the Jewish perception of the Greeks, but the Persians definitely considered Greeks and Alexander the Great and his forces to be barbarians. Persia was the first recognized civilization of the world.

I agree there, I'm making a distinction between brutal and "barbarian". Meaning the romans were brutal and violent but I don't know if the Jews looked down on them as being inferior or uncivilized.

The athenians likely felt the same way about the Macedonians.

All Gentiles were less than dogs, so they were most definitely looked down on. It would be like if ISIS occupied D.C. and considered themselves to be a civilization better than us. That sums up how the Jews thought of Roman Gentile dogs occupying their capital of Jerusalem.

I'm not doubting you, but where does that come from? I know the Jews, or at least the zealots/4th Philosophy, obviously hated the Roman occupation but never read about that aspect.

Their scriptures (Talmud and Torah) pretty much state it quite thoroughly. It applied to any non-Jewish population that happened to surround them, so it seems.
