Why do our politicians consistently use “democracy” when talking about our country?

These people are supposed to run the government and they don’t even use the correct word when describing the government. We are a republic, not a democracy. We are a republic for a reason, they have to know that we’re a republic. Why do they consistently use the wrong term?

50% of all politicians are as dumb as the people who elected them

We are technically both.

They neither understand nor respect the Constitution.

we are a democratic republic which equates to representative democracy, so it really isn't a big deal.

They use democracy like that’s the only thing we are. Like we vote on everything.

Well, let's see...Our Constitution tells us in sentence #1 where all authority lies. "We, the people, of the United States of America..."
We were "democratic" before we were a republic.
We were "democratic" before we were a republic.

No they use democracy because it's the correct word to describe our form of government.

This guy gets it.
We are not both numb nuts. What the living frick?
We are suppose to be a nation of laws built around gods natural laws. Instead we have become a democracy where large corporate interests and poor interests are dominating to the point of lawlessness and chaos. The constitution is all but dead on the West Coast and in certain cities in the US. They dont even care about gods laws that protect them and openly disenfranchise all the true anericans who support their cause through taxation.
That is why Americans are fed up. They recognize laws dont even protect them anymore. They are not represented anymore by anyone because we have become a democracy.

This is probably at the bottom of the totem pole with respect to issues I have with politicians.

We are being transformed from a republic into something more like a pure democracy that elects the POTUS by the popular vote.
That's why both major parties prefer the word "democracy" to the word "republic" -- both approve of this transformation.
