I think he was just emphasizing that the unsubstantiated 'name calling' is overwhelmingly coming from one side. They respond to reasoned arguments from a conservative as "dog whistles" or "racist" or "white supremacist" without ever refuting the points they are 'responding to' with their epithets - or even offering an example to substantiate their allegations. If if they try to offer an example it is almost always some random situation with many interpretations. Instead, they just huff and puff and call them bad names.
I see conservatives using similar 'bad names' but I have yet to see them refuse to substantiate with rationale or date why they are doing it. You can attack their rationale and prove them wrong, or you can just say it is all a 'dog whistle' = I rarely see the former alternative.

They blame the white straight man for their short comings . So they hate whatever the white straight man stands for.
