Wiretapping the media seems like a big risk. Why did he do that? What legal means did he have to wiretap a private citizen?

Legal means? The laws didn't apply to Barack Hussein Milhous Obama.

See my thread. Our intelligence apparatus is just like the KGB and any other intelligence gathering arm of any other nation...they do what ever the frick they want.

And there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it.

I believe it was because they were trying to figure out who his source of classified material was. The Obama admin also threatened to prosecute him for leaking classified material, which has never been done to a reporter - ever.

Yeah, "surprising" how the media scum never made a big deal out of the outrage of what Barack Nixon did to James Rosen.

Obama administration spied on Fox News reporter James Rosen: Report-Yahoo News

The Justice Department spied extensively on Fox News reporter James Rosen in 2010, collecting his telephone records, tracking his movements in and out of the State Department and seizing two days of Rosen’s personal emails, the Washington Post reported on Monday.

In a chilling move sure to rile defenders of civil liberties, an FBI agent also accused Rosen of breaking anti-espionage law with behavior that—as described in the agent's own affidavit—falls well inside the bounds of traditional news reporting. (Disclosure: This reporter counts Rosen among his friends.)

UPDATE: Fox News responds with a blistering statement that asserts Rosen was "simply doing his job" in his role as "a member of what up until now has always been a free press.”

The revelations surfaced with President Barack Obama’s administration already under fire for seizing two months of telephone records of reporters and editors at the Associated Press. Obama last week said he makes “no apologies” for investigations into national security-related leaks. The AP's CEO, Gray Pruitt, said Sunday that the seizure was "unconstitutional."

They could use wiretaps to find leaks?

Was he at Fox or was he AP when this happened? How come nothing came from this?

You are doing that lawyer thing where you ask a question you already know the answer to, aren't you?

So the AP was wiretapped as well. The Obama administration got nothing but a gripe about it being unconstitutional?

And let's not forget he did that to Rosen's parents as well.

Newly uncovered court documents reveal the Justice Department seized records of several Fox News phone lines as part of a leak investigation -- even listing a number that, according to one source, matches the home phone number of a reporter's parents.

Yeah Obama also tapped Rosen's parents and the AP

Obama spox says Obama never wiretapped a US citizen — immediately receives harsh history lesson

Obama is such a snake in the grass; that he and his planet of the apes ValJar live in a bubble and think people are stupid. She said he had no scandal

Where is the media on Obamas past FISA court illegal wiretaps? If it were a non dem; they would have crucified him by now.

Well that appears to be completely counter to reality.
