No, the system was what God dictated according to your claims that the bible is the word of God.
He provided a solution according to the hardness of hearts and sin in the lives of Israel. It was a practical application of the 10 commandments for them. It wasn't a command for all-time and all peoples in all places. It provided a source of welfare and work based on other biblical principles like working for your food while providing protections for those who have placed themselves (or been placed) under the care of those houses.

And I guess at least you are admitting you believe slavery is ok as long as you put out a water bowl and some food.
See, comments like this are why I don't take you seriously. You are not interested in the truth. You just want to exaggerate the truth to win some cool points on an internet forum. You seem incapable of steel-manning my position, which demonstrates either an intellectual deficiency, or at least a moral deficiency on your part.

Because giving them a job and allowing them to live freely was out of reach.

Other than that, you're just describing slavery. Yes, slave owners had to provide housing, food and some form of basic healthcare.

Because otherwise your slaves die.

I'm peeling away your bullshite to reveal the truth and that pisses you off.

It's like the song by The Police, Every Breathe You Take. You'll try to frame it as a man who is deeply passionate and caring about a woman and wants nothing but the best for her. In reality, it's a song about a stalker.

So as much as you want to put lipstick on slavery, I'm going to point out it's fricking slavery and providing basic needs doesn't change that.

You're conflating theroretical astrophysics with parental relationships.

No I’m not. I’m aware they are two separate things. We’re looking for two different things. Your knowledge quest is aimed at exclusion- you’re looking for reasons to substantiate your doubt. Mine is aimed at harmony- I’m looking for reasons to defend my faith.

How does having a relationship with your father help you understand an uncaused, immortal, timeless, immaterial, all powerful, all knowing, omnipresent, infallible, perfectly just and loving, etc., etc., etc?

It corroborates what His Word says- which is all of the above.

I never said your worldview is wrong because you're a simpleton. I just called you a simpleton.

The topic was theoretical astrophysics (origin of the universe) and you jumped to "But I know him and think he's a cool guy".

Okay, great, but personal relationships have nothing to do with theoretical astrophysics. And it was silly to try and conflate the two.

So, you did call me something?

And I didn't post ad hominems?

And you didn't substantiate your claims?

I pointed out you are a lightweight who can't handle basic philosophy.

You were the one that didn't even know how to identify an ad hominem.

And how did you come to that conclusion?

Because you replied with an ad hominem attack and you were incapable of making a single philosophical response to demonstrate or debate a fault in logic or reasoning.

I have yet to see anything that suggests it was inaccurate since that time either. If you are down for philosophical discussion, that's cool. If not you're better off making fun of dogmatic Christians.

No, that was just an insult.

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

You've had ample time to substantiate your claims. Instead your misidentifying logical fallacies and forgetting your own comments.

It's Philosophy.

Philosophy is an exercise of logic and reasoning.

Who said anything about you accepting anything? What part of an exercise in logic and reasoning did you see the word acceptance.

Philosophy is the enemy of blind acceptance.

Yes, actually. See my previous posts on this.

Yes, and while that sounds pretty basic to your modern mind, it was common for people to starve to death if their crops failed. Debtors also didn't have many ways to make money fast to pay off debts.

quote:

Because otherwise your slaves die.
That was sort of the point. There were incentives in place to prevent slaves from being abused. One of those was financial. See my previous posts. I've already discussed that.

quote:

I'm peeling away your bullshite to reveal the truth and that pisses you off.
You haven't peeled away anything. I'm not angry at all, but what's frustrating is not you revealing anything, but me having to explain these things to you as if you're a child. I know you aren't.

quote:

It's like the song by The Police, Every Breathe You Take. You'll try to frame it as a man who is deeply passionate and caring about a woman and wants nothing but the best for her. In reality, it's a song about a stalker.
I'm framing it based on what the author intended. If The Police said the song is about a stalker, then so be it. But if they say it's about a passionate man, then that's what it's about, regardless of what you want it to be.

quote:

So as much as you want to put lipstick on slavery, I'm going to point out it's fricking slavery and providing basic needs doesn't change that.
Again, read what I wrote previously. It's not enough to say "it's slavery", as if it's a one-size-fits-all description across all cultures and times. It's why I've spent so much time writing about it.

It's just not of God, it's what society and men had decided at the time. You just can't admit such things because you think it diminishes your golden ticket.

I'm glad I don't need to defend such bullshite.

You responded to me, disagreeing with me. What reason other than trying to convince me to believe something else would cause you to do that?
