We are witnessing right now, in our country and world, the effects of the country and world running on an atheistic moral compass. It's lawlessness.

The Bible explains why

I didn't quote the Bible. I just provided an explanation to you how all groups of human beings can have a shared moral outlook, and then told you that the Bible supports that explanation. In addition, you explained why you didn't want me to quote the Bible (because you presuppose that other populations aren't aware of or don't believe the Bible and base morality on it). My response doesn't presuppose anything about what people believe about the Bible. It only presupposes that the explanation given by the Bible is sufficient to answer your question, regardless of whether or not human populations are aware of it or believe it.

You are the one questioning my assertion that moral subjectivity is necessarily irrational. Why don't you provide a positive reason why it isn't?

This is retarded.

All of it can be explained without a hint of religion entering the conversation.

Why are y’all like this?

No, it can't. You can't go from an "is" to an "ought" without justification.

What you are saying is that because most societies share similar moral codes, that it must have evolved that way, and therefore that's what morality ought to be.

That's irrational.

You need to explain why majority opinion creates a moral obligation to go along with the majority, rather than the minority. For most of history, chattel slavery was (and still is, in some societies) considered morally permissible if not morally noble. To say that we've evolved past that is to say that there is some objective standard out there that states that chattel slavery is morally wrong, since you have to have a standard in order to compare an action against to say it's "good" or "bad".

When you say "why are y’all like this?", it tells me that you actually haven't thought much about this.

You can't see the lawlessness? Every damn topic on this board has something to do with a lawless spirit dwelling over this country.

I mean, one of the biggest common refrains from these boards is "wake me when someone is held accountable".

I recognize your username, you calling something retarded is the proverbial Pot criticizing the Kettle

An explanation...using the Bible.

Your argument is completely circular.

That's the entire point of discussing this outside of that circular logic. We concede what the impacts of the circularity are. There is no more need to discuss that particular line of thought.

That doesn't imply actual lawlessness. You're assuming criminality without a strong basis.

Fauci is a free man
The Clintons are free, and so many more
Teen Takeovers
The immigration issue iteslf
Protests that are just violent riots
Politicians just not GAF about the rule of law
"Cops can't do anything about it" mentality
The judicial system falling to shite before out eyes and working against law abiding citizens
Constant shoplifting in broad daylight
Assasinations galore
The fact that there is even a debate about Karmelo, Floyd, this child killer lady, and so many more similar cases... it's like morality in reverse.
The USAID situation and everything else DOGE uncovered
The drag racing and off road vehicles on our roads.
The homeless epidemic, and the handling of it

Lack of accountability (lawlessness)across the board, even if it isn't criminal, in schools, at work, in public places.

You can save your small time lawyer BS. It's obvious to those that can see.

I’m not saying that at all.

I think it evolving that way is the obvious way we got here.

But in no way am I saying it ought to be this way.

Is it not just a system we chiseled away at until it reasonably worked for decently strong participants in society?

That’s how I view it. And y’all’s version of that simply has a heavy religious blanket thrown over it. Done mostly to take advantage of people, to cheat them, to kill them and overall use as justification to get your way. With each religion or spinoff having unique traits.

That's certainly a take on things. What is your experience with church, regardless of the religion?

My brother in Christ, you need to look up actual data. Crime did have a spike following Covid, but it's down now and setting historic lows in some areas

You have become too focused on the echo chamber and have started to ignore reality.

I'll shine some reality on you and hope you feel better.

FBI: 2025 had biggest violent-crime drop in 90 years

quote:

The U.S. violent crime rate plunged 9.7% last year — the largest annual drop since the FBI's national estimates began in 1936 — according to the bureau's data released Friday and reviewed by Axios.

Why it matters: The FBI's 2025 report indicated that the post-pandemic declines in violent crime accelerated sharply last year in communities of all sizes across the U.S. (That drop appeared to continue during the first half of this year, a separate Axios analysis of big cities' violent crime data found last week.)

quote:

Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter dropped 18.1%.

Robbery fell 18.5%, rape 7.6% and aggravated assault 7.2%.

Meanwhile, the U.S. murder rate decreased 18.5% to 4.1 per 100,000 residents, tying 1955 and 1956 for the lowest rate since FBI national estimates began.

Property crime declined 12.4%, led by drops in motor vehicle theft (22.7%), burglary (15.8%) and larceny-theft (9.8%).

FBI Releases 2025 Reported Crimes in the Nation Statistics

quote:

The 2025 murder rate of 4.1 per 100,000 inhabitants is tied with 1955 and 1956 for the lowest murder rate.

I’ve been to about 15-20 services in my life(I’m 36 years old).

Split evenly between a Baptist church in the Mississippi delta and a couple Catholic services in central Florida.

What does this have to do with religion or even morality as we’re discussing?

From where I’m sitting this lawlessness you speak of mirrors how it works with religion as well. Surely you wouldn’t argue religion has created an environment where lawlessness gets handled properly. It seems to be the opposite from what I’ve seen.

I dislike both equally.

That’s fair. I’d argue you’re underestimating me due to the stupid internet name I typed decades ago, but I get it.

Honestly nothing of note.

I really enjoy the music and find that I can take a lot away from the stories and lessons taught.

And never had a bad experience with anyone. Meaning I never felt like anyone urged me to be or think a certain way or else.

Jerry Falwell and the moral majority converted Evangelical Christianity from a religious movement into the political movement you see today
