Why are so many on the left confident Medicare 4 all would easily pass a dem congress?

It would be the single most monumental piece of legislation ever introduced. It would directly affect 1/5 of our economy.

Some of the largest interests groups in America will spend literally hundreds of millions lobbying the hell out of fence politicians to vote it down

Nurse unions, the ama, hospitals, insurance companies, all will amount a war the likes of which we have never seen

Not to mention the political headwind of higher taxes, losing private coverage, scaring seniors about increased waiting times and rationing.

Obamacare and the gop failed bill were farts in the wind compared to M4A, yet the former 2 still caused huge political losses.

They know it's unrealistic but don't care. It is the polar opposite of what Trump wants so they will mindlessly repeat it over and over again.

I think that's right. I think that's why the "medicare for all who want it" (buy-in ideas) are more politically feasible (though still a lift themselves).

Medicare for all wouldn't solve much. There are premiums, co-pays and deductibles that come with Medicare. Take your Part B premium, add it to your Part D premium and the cost of a private Medicare supplement to cover those gaps and you're talking $300/month for most people. Even with Medicare Advantage, where you have $0 premium plans, you still have your Part B premium plus co-pays and the $6,700 MOOP cap. The point is, even with Medicare for all, the working class and the poor won't be able to afford healthcare.

The buy in would be a no go....or a charade mainly because many people, and dare I say, many on this board who would say they would never go for it, would be some of the first to OPT IN . I would predict that if that were to happen it would gut the private market within 10 years of implementation to the point that medicare for all would de facto become he overall insurance of the land. The only thing available will be specialty private plans for elective surgeries and treatments.

What many people don't understand is that big business will get behind this and cut a deal with the Democrats for assurances that they will not get raped by them for the money saved and is now part of the profits. The government will then make deal with the hospital corporations to guarantee them anywhere between 6-10% profit above the cost reimbursement. Medicare taxes will go up.

It's not a question of if this will happen, it's a question of when and how it's phased in and assuredly the government will underestimate and frick it up. We will then pay more for their frick up....get ready for a lot more foreign born docs if this happens
