This seems to be a main talking point if the pro-tax & spend crowd.

Simple, it no longer fits their narrative for supporting an increase to the debt ceiling or adding to the debt...

Pretty much the same for why conservatives support potentially adding to the debt at this point... Not arguing the tax plan will or won't, just being viewed from a different perspective...

Its always brought up by the party not holding the purse strings. This will not change till the republic ends.

They aren't.

I mean. At this point, anyone who believes that rhetoric is insane.

This is a party with a significant faction if not majority that wants.
1. College loans forgiven
2. Free College Tuition
3. Single Payer

There is literally NO politically palatable tax increase that could absorb that shite. And not a one of them cares about that.

No Presidential candidate this century save for Ron Paul actually cares about paying down the national debt.

Same reason conservatives became interested immediately after bush started wars that we couldn’t pay for.

Jesus are y’all so damn slanted that you can’t see it’s the same game for both sides?

Because a republican is in office.

They care about the middle east now too.

In terms of policy......PERMANET > Temporary

I submit you would get a majority of Democratic voters to say "yes" in support of Free College, College Loan Forgiveness and Single Payer.

Those 3 together make any expense spent thus far in the various wars since 2001 look like pocket change. And that's just in contemporaneous time frames. But wars EVENTUALLY end.

Permanent programs are.........well.........permanent.

The most ironic part about the left not caring about the deficit, historically, is that the deficit is simply the fed government selling IOUs to the federal reserve (mostly) and putting newly printed money into circulation, increasing the money supply and increasing inflation. What is ironic about that is the poorest people are the ones who lack hard assets and are the most hurt by inflation. If inflation is 4% per year, thats a 4% tax increase on the everyone who holds dollars every year. People who don't own real estate or have other assets are unfairly hurt by this hidden tax via inflation. Dems want the government to spend well into a deficit to "help" the poor and the poor are paying for it and don't even know it.

That’s a little detailed for the OP’s question and my answer, and a well deserved conversation on a nother thread, but my point was that both sides are hypocritical about spending when the ‘other guy’ is in office. I think we can all agree.

Well yes.

But speaking for myself(which is all I can do), while I hate deficits PERIOD......I hate deficits created by practically irrevocable shite a LOT more than I hate them created by temporary shite.

I also know from experience that estimates of the cost of permanent programs have literally NEVER been close to correct. NEVER.

For example. Left untouched from its inception........you'd have been able to pay for all future wars simply with the Obamacare overruns.

So. Yeah. My reaction to deficits created by wars is not the same for the reasons articulated above.

The war excuse damns us.

The only acceptable budget for war defense is 10 cents less than the previous year.
The entire budget should be a billion less each year.
Deal with the deficit now.
This budget is bizarre.
Bueller?
Voodoo economics.

When an idiot cuts revenue and ups spending everyone should pay attention. It’s a time bomb you and I will pay for.

So I ask. If you were casting a vote would you vote yes or no on:

1. Free College
2. Student Loan Forgiveness
3. Single Payer
