I disagree. I think if we had gone in with a plan for total and complete victory, we could have won it and won it quickly.
With US firepower used to its capacity (we can even exclude nukes), the Taliban could have been exterminated and those who wanted to take their place would be so scared of the US that they’d never dream of challenges again.
But we choose not to do that because it looks mean. We just keep sending our soldiers out to die for nothing but more money in the pockets of politicians

Because the goal is to feign difficulty...at how much a struggle it is.. and then occupy a country for decades. Sucking away all their resources. Even to the point of installing puppet regimes and then have those puppet regimes come out and publicly state how much our country is needed and how it should stay forever.

When these people are rounded up by goatfrickers wearing all black with their faces covered and lined up to be brutally and slowly beheaded, they're going to wonder what they did to offend the jihadists. Yeah, when we first got there we were doing pretty well... when we actually were at "war".
But in the 19 years since... we haven't really been at "war". We have been attempting to build a new nation and train a force that doesn't want to be trained, while our boys were sitting ducks for insurgents.
When you are in a war, you completely take over. We never did that. We could have... but we stopped short.

War is Hell. Somewhere along the way, we as a nation seem have forgotten that little fact. Freedom is not cheap and we pay for it with the blood from both sides. Sometimes the innocents get caught up in the crossfire.
Our adversaries prove time and again how they delight in raping and killing civilians for either revenge or entertainment. Look at the Taliban and what is going on right now. They have no conscience, and they will win this conflict because of it.
Maybe we changed our views when we dropped the two atomic bombs on Japan to end that war, even though it saved countless of our soldiers.
My dad was in that war. Those bombs needed to happen.
I think many who complain about Nagasaki and Hiroshima today, would not even be here because their fathers or grandfathers would have perished in the house to house fighting that it would have taken to get Japan to surrender had it not been for Fat Man and Little Boy. It’s easy to look back 3/4 if a century later and say we could have spared those people.
I don’t believe in wanton indiscriminate killing of civilians like our enemies all do, but we cannot defeat them if they know we will never harm their families. Our greatest strength is our greatest weakness, and they know it very well.
We should all be aware of this. When they come for us, they will show us no mercy, just as they haven’t shown it to others they have conquered.

We haven’t the stomach for war. Our wealth and global status has made us lazy and our lack of a moral compass has taken all willingness to do the right thing. In short, we are spoiled and soft.

Bin Lauden doesn't get killed by a sniper shot because a lawyer gave the no shoot call. Why? It's war, how many rag heads do you see with their feet dragging in the sand while on horse back? Remember Bin Lauden's height.
Bush gave the stand down order in Kuwait Freedom because they were afraid of what the world would think watching the slaughter on the Highway of Death. Screw that ....leave the bodies all the way to Bagdad ....then take them down. End it right there.
Viet Nam....tell every country that gives the NVA shelter ....get the hell out the way.
Let the Military do their job. After the Politicians start the war ....STFU and get out of the way.
