Words mean something and Egypt is blockading Gaza just as the Russians blockaded Berlin.

And yes Israel is blockading Gaza on sea and on land for obvious reasons.

Somebody posts saying they don't believe anybody was starving.. your response was to show they were. Your link states:

quote:

Major Guy Inbar, an Israeli military spokesman, said the calculation, based on a person's average requirement of 2,300 calories a day, was meant to identify warning signs to help avoid a humanitarian crisis, and that it was never used to restrict the flow of food.

Our govrment recommends less for most of the population

Even more so, you links states:

quote:

The food calculation, made in January 2008, applied the average daily requirement of 2,279 calories per person, in line with World Health Organisation's guidelines, according to the document.

So they were allowing more than Our Gov recommends and the World Health Organization....

But wait... more from your link:

quote:

Israel also used baffling secret guidelines to differentiate between humanitarian necessities and non-essential luxuries. The outcome was that military bureaucrats enforcing the blockade allowed frozen salmon and low-fat yogurt into Gaza, but not coriander and instant coffee.

Coriander.... 1 cal per 1/4 cup. Instant coffee.. sucks.

THE SINGLE MOST HILARIOUS PART OF YOUR ARTICLE:

quote:

While the embargo crippled Gaza's economy, at no point did observers identify a food crisis developing in the territory

Goes back to what I have asked over and over. If you have to LIE in order to keep your position... maybe you position is just not worth standing up for.

With all due respect, you're just an intellectually dishonest Israel-firster who has proven incapable of doing anything except regurgitating the most banal Likud talking points, and the fact that you would try to justify Israel's policy of calorie-counting Gazans proves this, since neither you nor anyone else on this board would ever tolerate our government doing this to us. You right-wingers can't stand Michelle Obama's PSA's advising us to eat healthier, so I can only imagine the violence that would ensue if the White House started forcibly limiting the amount of food we could eat. It sounds like something North Korea would do, and you actually have the nerve to try and spin it as benevolence by the Israeli government.

Did not justify one damn thing. I called you out on trying to make it sound like people were starving due to Israel when CLEARLY that was not the case. It's medically IMPOSSIBLE to starve a person on a 2,300 caloric diet.

What it proves is just what I stated. You lied. A person suggested that Israel was not starving the people in Gaza. YOU linked in response to that to show they were....

They were not. You lied....

NOT even a VALID argument. I'm not trying to blow up the government. I'm not trying to wipe them out.

"You right winger... BLAH BLAH.. Hatefilled.. blah blah blah.."

You are full of CRAP! You don't know what the hell you are even arguing about.

2,300 cals per day is in line with what we give our inmates. Maybe a candy bar's difference.

Point being.. you lied to try and make it into something it was and is not.

Why lie ?

All you can see is golden Israel and everyone else is a terrorist.

Have you considered the fact that the poster is saying what they actually are doing with the tunnels? Since they live in an open air prison, that would make much more sense to me. Yes, I'm sure that's how they get weapons as well. Guess they're not keen on being starved to death.

And btw, how does Israel or whatever proxy came up with this bullshite, know who is building the tunnels? How do they know it's kids?

They are not being starved to death. Now.. here is what you should do.

You go tell the liberal anti-Semitic media and all your friends that the material they are using is FLAWED. Tell them doctors saw the error and they need to adjust the material so that the lie is believable.

What you need to do is change the 2,300 calories per day to about 800 or less.

Start there, then follow ole Goebbels theory. That should make you proud!

If Gaza didn't distribute that food adequately, then I'm missing how that is Israel's problem.
Really? "Adequately?"

If you're letting in a precisely calculated number of calories per person to stave off malnutrition, you need more than an "adequate" food distribution network. You need a perfect one. Especially since it's not just about calories, but about the distribution of macro- and micro-nutrients. To say nothing of how accurate the IDF's bookkeeping is with regard to Gaza's birthrate.

But let's humor your idiotic question. How is it Israel's problem that Gaza's food distribution network isn't "adequate?" Well, what are some of the things that a food distribution network requires?

Transportation? LINK
quote:

If it's not the power getting cut, leaving entire neighborhoods in darkness, then it's the water not reaching the top floors or the cooking gas running out. If you have an electric generator, some small part of it is bound to be broken and unfixable, because even before the hermetic three-week siege, Israel prohibited bringing in any spare parts for cars, machines and household electric appliances.

...

Gaza is the long Nasser Street which has been blocked to traffic for over a year. Its asphalt is torn out and it is riddled with potholes and mounds of sand. When Israel forbade bringing any construction materials and raw materials into the strip, the renovation work stopped on this thoroughfare, the main access to three hospitals, which are always in danger of equipment failure if some part breaks down.
Refrigeration? LINK
quote:

The Gaza Strip's sole power plant started up again on Monday after Israel allowed quantities of Qatari-paid fuel into the enclave to ease a power crisis, Palestinian officials said.

...

On Saturday, the plant, a main source of electricity for Gaza's 1.8 million people, stopped due to fuel shortages, a move that extended daily blackouts from eight hours a day to 12.

Raed Fattouh, the Palestinian Authority coordinator of supplies into Gaza Strip, told Reuters that Israel allowed in 110,000 liters of fuel on Sunday for the plant and was pumping an additional 500,000 liters on Monday.

"The plant was put back into operation," Gaza Energy Authority's Ahmed Abu Al-Amrain said.

A few months ago the power plant was switched off for 43 days due to a fuel shortage when neighboring Egypt closed off smuggling tunnels. Israel eventually allowed in fuel paid for by Qatar when a storm swept the region.
That most basic tool of distribution... the market? LINK
quote:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his Dutch counterpart on Sunday that while Israel was grateful for the Netherlands’ donation of a container scanner for use at a Gaza crossing, it still could not allow exports from Gaza to the West Bank due to the possibility that the equipment could be abused.

Israel’s refusal to allow Gaza to use the scanner to screen exports to the West Bank angered the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who canceled a planned dedication ceremony for the scanner at the Kerem Shalom crossing.
(Note that the third story is an example of Israel being aware of the "terror tunnels" for some time now. Their politicians are just shifting casus belli every few weeks as it suits them.)

That's a very articulate and lucid response. I wish their was a market and logistical situation in which all these things could and or, would be addressed.

Hamas rules with an iron fist in as much as any other facist Muslim society in the region.

If carts of food and produce was available would it be advantageous for Hamas to hand these out and allow free will and thought to flourish doubtful.

Just as the warlords in Somali keep all UN food stock's in warehouses (for arms trade) while their populations starve so would these kindred souls.

90 million wasted so far on terror tunnels leading only into Israel and for what purpose?

Without total United Nation intervention and long term commitment into Gaza this will continue indefinitely.

Macro and Micro nutrients really<

The only reason Hamas has the power that it does is the blockade. The blockade is putatively intended to hurt Hamas but in fact does nothing but strengthen them, because the only supplies that are allowed in are through the auspices of the state, therefore Hamas becomes the only game in town. You want construction materials? Gotta go through Hamas. Want to set up a logistics chain? Gotta go through Hamas. Want to distribute your wares on any scale larger than a fruit stand? Talk to Hamas.

It is classic counterproductive thinking that prevents Palestinians from creating any private institutions that might function outside of the state on any appreciable scale.

Can't be said enough.

It's rather strange with all the free market types. The more free the market the more free the people right?

There you are.... Showing those true colors once again.

Had to move from the "Israel is starving people". So now you are on a kick about calorie counting.

Our own government suggests less for kids and most of the population.

The WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION would give less.
