I wouldn't trust any law enforcement department or agency to conduct a 36 year old investigation in a week.

There is quite literally nothing more to investigate. All of the witnesses have been interviewed. There is no hard evidence of any kind to discover BECAUSE THIS IS ALLEGED TO HAVE HAPPENED 36 YEARS AGO.
This isn't an investigation to see if this actually happened. It's an "investigation" to see what they can find to ostensibly warrant "additional investigation"
