This is a tradition in a lot of Old Baptist churches. Jesus washed his disciples feet. This is symbolic of that. I have no problem with it at all if that’s the context.

Same.

Should the survivor of the Wichita Massacre be entitled to the same treatment and guilt acknowledgement by any Black People she encounters?

OF COURSE NOT!
All Black People were NOT responsible for the Wichita Horror! The Carrs were.

I'd wager good money that some of the imbecile wouldbe MaryMagdalenes are actually descended from families of Union Soldier Civil War casualties, and some of the blacks whose feet they are washing are not descended from American slaves.

Just to add further absurdity to the exercise.

I'll never understand the act of apologizing for something you had no part in. It seems like a really weak mindset.

These activists may be treating the act as "apologizing for something they had no part in;" but that's not what Jesus's intent was.

I just want to be clear that what they're doing borders on being offensive--for activists to hijack a sacred act for their misguided political reasons, that is.

This, I agree with. Well, not 100%. It doesn’t border, if you’re a Christian, which in full transparency I’ll admit I’m a non-believer. This, I would think, would be very offensive to Christians.

I think the word “offensive” is one of the most overused words in the English language; but in this case I do feel offended.

Someone like you—who graciously and honestly admitted he isn’t a Christian—sees/hears this story and, understandably, thinks we’re all a bunch of nutjobs.

There’s a very specific reason for this act (as explained above).
And it isn’t to humiliate, subjugate, or guilt anyone into feeling badly.

I’m very grateful to you for starting this thread.
I’ve been on the phone with several people about this (since reading your post), and we’re all saddened and unsettled.

Peace, friend.

They would have to kill me. I wouldn't do it if I had a gun to my head.
