Christianity didn't get to Scandinavia until the 10th-12th centuries. Of course they had their own belief systems, mythology, rituals etc. that predate Christianity. For a lot of the northern European pagans today, part of the whole appeal is going back to pre-christian roots that they view as inherently Scandinavian. It's partially a nationalist thing.

Not really sure what you're confused about.

Other than the Eddas, where are they getting their rites, rituals, etc., from? As far as I know, all that exists of Norse mythology is simply oral tales that were written down by Icelandic monks. How are they able to reconstruct Odinism/whatever you want to call Germanic paganism?

From what I understand, a lot of it would be better classified as straight up animism, shamanism, nature worship etc. Obviously we aren't talking about an official church with standardized practices, more like heathen folk religion. You're right that some of these groups use stuff derived from the Eddas, then there are other groups that don't touch the Eddas at all and pretty much have to wing it and make their own approximations.

For a lot of them it basically boils down to rejection of Christianity as an "outsider religion" that was foisted on their ancestors. There is a large subset of Scandinavian extreme metal bands (specifically black metal or NSBM) who make that a big part of their persona today.

I understand the history. It was your response to me that had me confused. I wasn't sure what about my statement prompted the response. It seemed to be a non sequitur.

My misunderstanding then! I read your phrase "We must destroy every remnant of White/European culture and civilization." and I figured you were talking about Pagans trying to destory white/european culture when usually they're more into the opposite of that.

Thanks, Hemp. That makes sense. I'm struggling today. Entering holiday mode already, but stuff have too much to do.

Heilung. I don't really know what to call them. It's strange as hell but for some reason I like it. Definitely not in my normal wheelhouse.
