Why are the best artists "underground"?

Because Nashville has always sucked. They try to smooth the rough edges to appeal to a crossover audience but those rough edges are the best part of country music. Three chords and the truth.

over a decade ago, I was watching CMT one Saturday morning. A kid did a "edge country" song/video and it was one of those songs that grab you from the start, I loved it, and he was taking Nashville to task for this very topic

Well some say I'm not country
And that's just fine with me
'Cause I don't wanna be country
With some figgot looking over at me
They say that I'm ill-mannered
That I'm gonna self-destruct
But if you know what I'm thinkin'
You'll know that pop country really sucks

So I'm here to put the "dick" in Dixie
And the "cunt" back in country
'Cause the kind of country I hear now days
Is a bunch of frickin' shite to me
They say that I'm ill-mannered
That I'm gonna self-destruct
But if you know what I'm thinkin'
You'll know that pop country really sucks

used to like Tim McGraw but his wife won't let him own a gun

Few years ago I saw a quote from Tim. I asked one of his friends in monroe what is up with that comment. I was told that Tim has always been a little left .

Tim was made a star. His Daddy new and executive in the music industry and he met with Tim and he was made. I have seen him more that once on TV live and if they dont use a box to make him sound good he is off tune.

"Country Music Inc" is owned and operated by the same soulless corporations that run all the other entertainment media.

It lost whatever character and soul it had a long, long time ago.

it was a kid who recorded/filmed the video on a Nashville sidewalk, probably on Broadway, and in the daytime

he was probably about 24 years old with sideburns

could have been 10-15 years ago

I can't find it on YT but Robert Earl Keen did a version of his Front Porch Song spoken interlude where he tells the story of Rascal Flatts approaching him about opening for them on a big-budget tour.

. . . and as I was standin' there, throwin' gravel at the receding tail lights of their Toyota Prius, I couldn't help askin' myself, What The frick has happened to country music?

This guy gets it.

The Troubadours are a national treasure right now. The new album is stellar.

I like that Stephen Wilson Jr guy and I’m not a big country music fan. For some reason he reminds me of Cornell

Cornell? Chris Cornell? Please don’t compare any country music artist that’s worth a dam to that Seattle liberal.

Oh look, another topic where you know nothing. The big country labels have always tried to turn country into pop.

When the "Keith Urban" types entered the room, I had to remove myself from anything new in country.

Some of the better country in my 50 years has been made in the last 15 years. It just doesn't make the radio.
