The Obama/Biden admin called Afghanistan the “good war” and Iraq the boondoggle.

My understanding even while Obama was still in office was that Biden told Obama to not listen to the general's demands for 40k troops to Afghanistan and cut our losses in 2009.
In classic Obama fashion, he neither cut our losses - thus resigned us to another decade in Afghanistan - nor gave the generals the 40k troops they thought they needed to complete the mission either. He was too scared of people thinking he was weak so he gave the generals 20k troops instead!
