The world is terrified of a "boots on the ground" wars......so we invest trillions in laser guided bombs and new unmanned long-range technology. Russia and Ukraine are the outliers here....they playing old school!....and it prolly will be the last war fought in the trenches. So we will continue to fight wars, but mainly from the air....and people still die.

Agreed. Taiwan/China may happen but outside of that everyone else is petrified of deploying large numbers of ground troops.

Technology will phase out humans from being useful in the Army and Marines.

And when one sides tech is defeated you assume they'll surrender?

The amount of stupidity and ignorance in this thread is rather impressive.

Not surprising since most of you dipshits never wore a uniform a day in your life.

Did you serve in the IDF? Half of your posts are defending Israel completely unprovoked

The US probably would tuck tail. We’re terrified of “boots on the ground.”

People join the Army and Marines these days to collect a check, get their college paid for, and obtain free benefits, not fight wars.

If/when there ever is another full scale war it will end with an 18 year old private with a rifle standing over the dead body of another 18 year old and holding a piece of land.

Everything else - bombing, artillery, etc - is preparation for that.

I know for certain it won’t involve US soldiers.

And if not. Or if the other side doesn't, you think they're going to surrender if they're out of drones and have millions of men and rifles, or do you think there might be some ground combat at that point?

And we've had "boots on the ground" for most of the last 25 years. What do you mean?

Yep. The politicians are terrified of using ground forces again. Citizens have been conditioned that “boots on the ground” is about as equivalent as launching a nuclear warhead.

Outside of the US being invaded (won’t ever happen), we won’t have ground forces in a war again. Technology will catch up and surpass the need for them anyway.

I’m specifically referring to large numbers from the Army/Marines being deployed.

I said in OP outside of deterrence what is their purpose. That counts as deterrence.
