I get it that you don't want go along with their BS, but agreeing with it in that manner disarmed them.
He acknowledges something probably happened and feels badly for her, but insists it wasn't him. That takes away their next move.
They're already ready with reactions to his answers, but they won't expect those.

Why on earth would he assume something "happened" to her? No evidence of it and she said the "something" was done by HIM. So, the only evidence of a "something" is a thing he denies.

Besides he didn't do anything wrong. This is just a last-ditch attempt to stop his appointment. I saw this same b/s happen with Clarence Thomas.
Diane Feinstein pulled this stunt because she was attempting to gain favor with the more far-left elements of the democrat party. She knew they were about to dump her and she wanted to hold on to her senate seat. So she threw them a bone.

Are the Republicans sure they are not better off allowing him to be blocked and campaigning on it?
I think a good bit of stay at home Never trumpers would come out in the midterms to ensure that congress stays red if that was the case
