NATO is a defensive treat. Do you think they would escalate to a all out nuclear war. And, if say Germany responded with some IRBM of their own, non nuclear as they don't have nukes, only NATO members with nukes are England, France and the US that country would then have hit first and I'm not sure a bunch of the NATO folks would want to jump into the nuclear fire.
I'm not pro-Russia I'm just saying the Ukes don't have them, I don't see NATO starting World War III and I don't think China would do much.
They'd be a pariah state sure, but the world is full of seedy fricks and it would not be long before some needed what Russia has etc.
I think mostly Putin would be worried about a coup from inside over the use over a response from outside.
I'm not pro-Russia I'm just saying the Ukes don't have them, I don't see NATO starting World War III and I don't think China would do much.

Ukraine struck 4 bases that held Russia’s bombers, many of which had been used to drop payloads on Ukraine and to launch cruise missiles. I’m sure they weren’t all derelicts. Of course, Russia doesn’t have advanced bombers, so it’d be hard to tell.

Hey, they were functional bombers. I think they took a big strategic hit with these last attacks. But they have more ways to deliver than by aircraft. They demonstrated this a few months ago with a IRBM strike.
I'm not sure NATA has full resolve if pushed I think a lot of the countries would opt for a neutral stance if things started heading toward full on war. If so, Russia would have broken NATO without firing a shot at NATO. The Russians nuking Ukraine would not trigger article 5. They would just look like crap, even more so, and the UN would try and do something, they'd veto anything that came tried to come out of the security council.

The issue is that no one other than the US has used nuclear weapons in war. The Russians don't know the other side of the calculus if they use nukes first. That is a situation in geopolitics which makes states err on the side of caution, i.e., not use nukes unless used first.
