And this was her way of getting her story out there... the clip comes off more as an interview than someone talking during a commercial break

actually, she probably had little idea this video existed.

This was someone in the "tape" room (they don't use tapes anymore) who was rolling in the back and pulled this out to send to O'keefe.

You'd be surprised what Anchors talk about during commercial breaks as well as during stories that are airing.

Another option is this was recorded after a show in "post production." This would be prime time to have something recorded that the anchor didn't know about.

If she was on set, and wanted to record it, she'd need multiple accomplices.

Most get the "hot mic" rule, however many don't obey it.

A better explanation is someone who is using one of those large satellite dishes. Most networks broadcast out in the open on them and they keep broadcasting even when commercials are being played on the networks. Anyone with one of those large dishes can pick up all kinds of satellite uplinks for free.

Actually this makes sense... I’m a fan of CBS’ show big brother, and they had a guy posting video of what was streaming even while the network was airing and the online feed was down too, and they claimed it was through a satellite like you describe
