Most vehicles on the road can run 85% ethanol/15% gasoline. So now the POTUS wants an additive of 15% ethanol to gasoline that will ruin most car and small engines. I'll be buying non-ethanol gas before the 15% additive.

He wants to ruin our gas cars to make us switch to electric ones.

Sounds to me like ole Joe’s brain is just now approaching 2001 AD when E85 became a thing.

E85 throws out higher emissions and dems will say it's bad so cars and trucks must go.

It will likely be in that "ethanol free" as well.

Something doesn’t add up with these two statements.

E85 has half the emissions as regular gasoline. There are tons of things to knock ethanol for but you guys throw out some real doozies on here sometimes.

Gonna have to disagree with you there, highcotton -

quote:

On a fuel life cycle basis for corn-based ethanol versus gasoline, CO emissions are estimated to decrease by 18%. Life-cycle total and fossil CO2 emissions are estimated to decrease by 25 and 50%, respectively; however, life-cycle HC and NOx emissions are estimated to increase by 18 and 82%, respectively.

Another promise kept!

E85 has 25-30% less emissions at best.

E85 also has 27% less efficiency so the emissions arguement is, at best, a wash; since you use more fuel to get to where you are going.

E85 costs about 20% less than regular, so, from a personal monetary decision, it makes more sense to fill up with regular than with E85.

I dont know how accurate this number is, but I believe it. I tried a tank of E85 on a road trip last summer because it was a good bit cheaper. I lost over 100 miles on that tank of gas by switching from reg 87 to E85. I dont recall the math (cost per mile) of E85 vs 87, but you dont have to worry about me buying that junk again.

That may be for production but we will not see up to a 20% reduction at the pump. Ten to fifteen cents at best, then the price will rise shortly thereafter to shame people into buying EVs.

Check your car manual to note if it can run E-85. If it isn't specifically identifies as dual fuel don't use E-85.

As far as anything Potatus says, I discount it immediately.

Those were the numbers when I ran then against my e85 tahoe a few years back. 10 tanks of regular vs 10 tanks of E85. Both were City and Highway driving mix.

YMMV in a very literal sense.

You can test for it...

Youtube video on how to test to see if nonE gas has ethanol in it.

Thank you, good that people are beginning to understand this. I use non-ethanol whenever possible and though the price is higher, the fuel efficiency increases. Instead of getting 400 Miles from a tank of 10% ethanol, I get 450 miles on tank of non-ethanol, the car runs better too.

Really, the only benefit with ethanol is that if oil is in short supply, you have an option, though not a very good option.

And don't forget that the ethanol in fuel begins breaking down in about 2 weeks. If you leave it too long in your tank, you will have water floating around in your tank. 100% Gasoline stores for months, with very little breakdown.

Ethanol free gas is just 10 cents more than premium here. With the slight improvements in mileage from straight gas, it will probably save you a little money.

Many vehicles are capable today can run on E85 which is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline blend. Check your owners manual. My Chevy truck is one of them.

Most of todays vehicled are made to run on gasoline that is a 90% gasoline and 10% ethanol blended fuel. Joe is proposing adding another 5% ethanol. Making it 85% gasoline and 15% ethanol blend. That 15% ethanol will now wreak havoc on engines, both small and large.

Hope that explains it for you.

What’s using more corn for ethanol production going to do to the food supply? Already predictions of wheat shortages, what’s all this going to do to my cereal supply?
