Big Democratic ran cities constantly wanting to defund their police departments. This will and has caused violent crime to increase at high rates. Then Crime gets to a point where military has to be involved. Then you have the perfect storm for martial law. Latest is Oakland, CA. The Marxists welcome strife and crime. They want this so that it will allow them to push more government control.

Not just crime. The left wants the economy to tank. Then they can say 'Well, we gave capitalism a shot and look what happens. Time for Marxism.'

I don't think it's quite that Orwellian yet.
It seems they have found a way to the golden ticket though. By defunding the police, and allowing things to get out of control, they can then declare a state of emergency and ask for state and federal help. The federal dollars start rolling in. Almost none of them go to the people they are meant to help. Politicians and their cronies pocket the bulk of it.
It wasn't working during the Trump administration because they were getting called out on it. With the new boss, it's back to business as usual.
The goal has always been to get the federal treasure chest access. Power ends up coming with the money, but I believe the goal was always to get the money first.

Just playing devil’s advocate, they already control inner cities. Wouldn’t they want to push martial law in the burbs and rural areas?

I find this particularly amusing seeing as how one of the burrs in these people's asses was their disdain for the "Militarization" of the local polices departments.
