What are Senate Conservatives Going to Do about McConnell?
The script is sickeningly familiar by now, isn’t it? Establishment Republicans -- led throughout the ’22 elections and in their aftermath by the notorious Kentucky senator-for-life Mitch McConnell -- betrayed their party’s base, which is staunchly conservative, increasingly in an America First sorta way.
Yes, lest one is confused because of all the serial betrayals, we’re referring to the gross obscenity called the “$1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill.” For true-blue conservatives, the brazen middle-finger thrust rudely into their faces by McConnell and seventeen other Senate go-alongs should be an act of war. Political war, that is.
The first major offensive in this war needs to be led by Senate conservatives. The mission is audacious, as well it should be given the stakes: bringing down D.C.-lovin’ Mitch McConnell as Republican Senate leader. Ace out dull John Thune as heir-apparent. Install Rick Scott as the new leader. The grassroots needs to undergird the fight and sustain it.
Why war? Because the character of this betrayal is precedent-setting. It sticks out defiantly like owlish Mitch’s raised middle finger. You see, as stupid as Republicans are -- and, by God, they can be an awfully dumb bunch -- McConnell and his troop of monolith-agitated apes have realized in their dull-wittedness that they really aren’t beholden to their voters, other than tossing them bleach-whitened toothy grins and occasional bones.

Beware of any Republican running for president not carrying the torch for this and not having it at the forefront of their campaign.
This includes the two putative "frontrunners" - and, yes, I'm calling out BOTH on this.

Scott was the 2022 election commander.
do you want to give that up just to have a non RINO minority leader?
2024 looks like an easy path to Senate majority as few Gop are in contested states and the dems up for reelection are in mostly purple regions. who is your senate election guy?

are all 20 who voted for the budget-kitchen sink-Omnibus bill officially Rino now?
shouldnt they be primaried?
can you provide a brief list of positions the primary winner must swear to?
note. McConnell starts with the 23 votes.
he only needs 25 to win. 49 senators. my guess is that his getting 2 more Supremes than he had any right to beats anything your nominee will ever do.
there would be 5 4 non gop Supremes without mcConnell. garland and Amy Barrett say hi.

A POTUS candidate running on who should be the Senate Majority Leader would certainly be an odd tactic.

Maybe.
We live in odd times.

McConnell is the one that controlled the super pac money for Republicans. It was him, specifically, that steered all the money toward Murkowski, for example, rather than her REPUBLICAN challenger that would have put fresh blood in the Senate. And he abandoned the races in Arizona and elsewhere.
Mitch is the one that sabotaged the midterms.

might work in the primaries. for the general you go for BIG TENT, ie we put aside our differences. yelling at some Rino in leadership in senate is what you do when you already hold 62 seats, not 49.

Nothing! They’re all stealing our tax money! Apparently we pay/give government way to much of our hard earned money!

They already were.

If they support Ukraine aid - they are out (this means I will not be voting for Rick Scott in 2024, for example. I don't care who his opponents is/are, he has LOST my vote.)
If they voted for the Omnibus - they are out.
House members that get behind McCarthy - they are out.
House or Senate members that endorse any sort of amnesty - they are out.
These all seem like good places to start. I've already made threads with this stuff.
Of the Republican Senators on the 2024 ballot, only 3 remain qualified to further consideration. There are 57 House members. That list will probably get culled considerably when they meet in January to elect Speaker.
All Democrats are eliminated - they all support Ukraine aid and the Omnibus.
We should be sending no more than 10% of Congress back to DC in 2024, and that's a high estimate, I believe.

Screw them. They made their bed by re-electing him to a leadership position recently when they could have ousted him.

big tent is a concept. "our" is from the point of view of the tent owner.
I'm not identified with either current leadership.
I wouldn't spend a dime on climate but I'd do as much as possible to reduce dependence on any one source of energy. I don't see how to charge electric cars at a cost we can afford.
the medical system is too beholden to capitalism.
scarcity is intentional.
not enough medical docs.
not enough medical schools.
b.s. about the cost of drugs after you buy the company on leverage.

I appreciated McTurtle's gamesmanship in stalling the SCOTUS pick during Obama. I appreciated McTurtle's aggressive tenacity in confirming judges during Trump...
But his usefulness has expired. Hopefully his Senate seat will expire soon as well, but I have my doubts. McTurtle is so deep in the swamp that he's another permanent fixture that will only leave when he wants to leave. He, along with many others in Congress, are the reason that term limits should exist.
