In Liberal Speak - He attacked Bush for the exact same thing, but now that Obama is doing it he understands why and it's perfectly fine.

Which makes me ask, why didn't he come to this conclusion when Bush was President? What is the difference about the President taking a vacation then, and now?

Just juxtapose his face in the Foley presser...and five minutes later with the Jim Carrey smile/shades in the golf cart.

Golf has told us more than all of Obama's talk put together.

Um it's written by an Former Obama staffer and he explains how the WH works when Obama is away:

[quote]On daily conference calls that began for us at 2 a.m. Hawaii time, the president’s team began assembling information that would be used to brief the president and the press corps. (Unfortunately, the local Starbucks was not keeping the same hours we were, and we were far too decaffeinated for hours of the first calls.) Read more: LINK ] if you actually read the article he explains this and certainly doesn't pretend to be objective

I don't recall him attacking Bush for that but it's possible. Others did. The man was on a one month vacation leading up to 9/11.

Conservative Speak - Bush was working when he was on vacation, Obama isn't.

Excellent article. Thanks.

And I agree with Vegas Bengal, the guy tells it like it is, not how we want it to be. Only part I take issue with is...

An out and out lie. Sorry, no way around it. But he did learn a valuable lesson (I have done the same as a young NCO and officer, running my mouth when I had no idea what was going on above me). At least he admits regret, something I respect.

All in all, a good article.

No, it isn't a good article. It's typical liberal hypocrisy. Now that "one of their guys" is in office, suddenly leisure time is a great thing.

That's just like how liberals blasted Bush over things like the Patriot Act and not closing GITMO, and using those issues to claim that Bush violated the Constitution. Obama gets elected, fails to follow thru on his promise to close Gitmo, and abuses the Constitution far more than Bush ever did.

But, guess what? Hardly a peep about that. This article is simply an extension of that hypocrisy.

I can understand liberals covering for Obama, but it's pretty pathetic when a conservative gets hoodwinked by this phony charade.

I know a thing or two about leadership. Trust me. You need time away. When you are campaigning and you have never faced the rigors of leadership you have a tendency to run your mouth about things you do not understand. He understands now. Belatedly, but he does understand.

If you want to discuss the other things on the merit then we can discuss them as well. We can also discuss the MSM holding President Obama to a different standard (I believe that as well).

But you need time away. How much? When? That is something each individual leader has to determine. Some do it better than others.

Clearly.

But ... sometimes, even when you are burnt out ... a leader has to suck it up and keep fighting the good fight.

The lack of the physical presence of the HMFIC has a huge effect on morale, perseverance, etc.

Imagine if you work for a local business with about 30 employees ... and the busines is going through some struggles ... and the owner/CEO basically says ..."See y'all later...I'll be playing golf down in the Caribbean ... see ya whenever."

Probably would not work out well unless that owner/CEO has some exceptional employees.

Obama is not surrounded by exceptional employees.

Bush took 347 days off of vacation time. He essentially took a year off during his term and thats not counting Camp David or Martha's Vineyard....

Wolfhound,

Nobody expects the man to work 24/7, so of course he needs and deserves some downtime. That being said, even some liberals have been talking about how Obama has already "checked out" regarding his responsibilities as President.

Let's look at some major issues which have heated up very recently. We have the situation in Ukraine, the threat that ISIS will take control of Iraq (not to mention Syria), hordes of "kids" flooding into America via our unsecured our border with Mexico, and last but not least, the fiasco taking place in Ferguson, MO.

It hasn't exactly been the typical last month or two, has it? Yet, Obama takes off and spends, what, 3 weeks in Martha's Vineyard, playground of the one percenters he campaigned against?

Three weeks in Martha's Vineyard, and he can't visit the Texas/Mexico border once? Especially when he went to Texas anyway? Then he holds a PC to denounce the beheading of James Foley, but he's seen smiling out on the golf course 45 minutes later?

A lot of us know something about leadership, wolfhound. Unlike you, I have concluded that Obama is a very, very poor excuse for a leader, and he must agree with me, because he is basically AWOL these days while some huge events are continuing to play out.
