My 8yo daughter laughs at people when we pull up at a red light and they have a mask on in their car. I don’t know what it is, as I should be able to just let it go but it fricking unnerves me to see people wearing masks in cars, outside, and indoors. Maybe I should go see a therapist about that:)

Last summer, I pulled up to a light next to a guy masked up by himself in a Prius. He was looking around with wide eyes. He saw me as I rolled my window down. I motioned for him to roll his down. I seriously wanted to ask him why. His eyes got even bigger and he frantically shook his head no. This guy was afraid of his own shadow.

I had some family have to go to Boston late last year. They said EVERYONE was wearing masks outside. My family didn’t of course, and they said people walking on the sidewalks would stop and cross the street as soon as they noticed they were mask-less.

It’s shocking how mindless those “educated” folks are up there.

My favorite are the people who wear masks while driving.

I'm sure those geniuses are getting enough oxygen to their brains to make good driving decisions, and their glasses are remaining unfogged so they can see what they need to see.

for anyone who wants leftist spin on outside masking:

NYT: Do We Still Need to Keep Wearing Masks Outdoors

quote:

To understand just how low the risk of outdoor transmission is, researchers in Italy used mathematical models to calculate the amount of time it would take for a person to become infected outdoors in Milan. They imagined a grim scenario in which 10 percent of the population was infected with the coronavirus. Their calculations showed that if a person avoided crowds, it would take, on average, 31.5 days of continuous outdoor exposure to inhale a dose of virus sufficient to transmit infection.

quote:

Recently the online magazine Slate stirred controversy when it suggested an end to outdoor mask rules. The article won support from top public health experts and even The New England Journal of Medicine blog but prompted a fierce backlash from readers, who noted that while the risk of outdoor transmission may be low, it’s not zero.

“Shallow and selfish take,” wrote one reader on Twitter. “You have blood on your hands. You should feel ashamed,” posted another.

clearly, the readers of Slate don't love them some science!

quote:

“In the coming months, ‘normal life’ will begin to become safer, but I worry that some people won’t be willing or able to relax pandemic restrictions in ways that makes sense,” Dr. Golub said. “I worry that folks have internalized the fear messaging without understanding the reasons behind specific behavioral recommendations, and therefore, the reasons that they can be modified as circumstances change.”

This Dr. Golub thinks all people are stupid, not just Trump voters,

1000%

Only people wearing masks here still are people obsessively watching the news and those concerned with virtue signaling.

What blows my mind is I randomly see someone running or riding a bike outside... I just assume they are not from around here

It’s not about the science. It’s about contributing to mask wearing culture, bigot.

yes indeed.

The NYT email I rec'd (and I can't find it on the website) says the following:

quote:

There are still important precautions to take, ones that are much more based in science than universal mask wearing. Unvaccinated people should wear masks when in close conversation with people outside their family — even outdoors — and should almost always wear a mask when indoors and not at home. Vaccinated people should continue to wear a mask in many indoor situations, to help contribute to a culture of mask wearing. It’s the decent thing to do when more than half of Americans still are not vaccinated.

Tara’s story includes a delightful graphic that summarizes the advice.

That’s how it was for us in Orlando on vacation. Blew my mind. Mask donning was heavier 3 weeks ago there than it was where I live even in the muh first wave last spring.

I live in a blue area and even here people who mask outside are the butt of jokes. Places like Canada and New York might as well be on the moon to me.

Somebody on this board said it best last week.

If you think you need permission to celebrate July 4th, then you really don’t understand the meaning of Independence Day.
