We could have avoided the Civil War if Lincoln had offered to teach southerners to code

There are some similarities between trying to kill the oil industry and the political atmosphere in the mid 1800’s.

Meh, were Southerners all going bankrupt prior to the civil war?

The Tariffs were designed to do just that..

But were they doing it all on their own prior? You do realize that over the last 4 years the O&G industry has experienced record BKs.

Yes..from 1828 to the beginning of the war Tarriffs led directly to a reduction in exports from the south, increased cost of imports for goods they consumed more than the north, and economically impacted everyone living in cotton country. How it compares to oil..I don’t know

Suspended habeas corpus and freedom of the press in the north during the war.
Committed war crimes by today’s standards in the Confederate States.
Tyrant.

The oil industry isn't immoral per se, like slavery.

You misunderstood the point, there are no tariffs bankrupting O&G. They're going bankrupt all on their own from a commodity price downturn beginning in '14 coupled with horrible mismanagement and damn near criminal misrepresentation of their reserves and cost structure. So unless you can analogize that to the pre-civil war era the square isn't fitting in the hole.

The atrocities he authorized during the war would be classified as crimes against humanity today.
And yet some on this board praise him.
