It sounds like Trump's saying we should stay because we're pot committed. We've spent so much time, money, and blood that we can't leave until we've got something to show for it.

I didn't actually hear a compelling reason for why continuing the war is in our vital national interests or how we have any strategy breakthroughs that will fundamentally alter the state of affairs or make any gains sustainable absent our permanent presence.

I understand that it's very difficult to make the call for pulling out knowing damn well that the government in Afghanistan will inevitably fall to the Taliban. It shows that we've basically squandered lives and treasure for at least the last 10 years over there, but at some point you have to face reality. The Taliban can live in the wilderness and fight for generations. We've given the Afghans every possible tool and advantage to fight them off. If they can't do it now, what good is us staying for another 2, 5, 10 years even? We will find ourselves facing the exact same dilemma IMO.

Yea, I'll believe it when I see it.

The nation building aspect will not change.

Have any of you Trumpzis ever actually seen a map of Afghanistan? the tribal region?

4,000 guys wont do shite, its not even a drop of water in the ocean.

What I'm hearing is a training mission, meaning 80% of our dead will be a result of the trainee shooting the trainer. This is a joke from a military standpoint.

We have been killing terrorists for 16 years in Afghanistan and only spawned more by being there. This is more of the same with different words and it won't work but hell why not just send more of our troops who were toddlers when we entered the war to fight.

Putting pressure on Pakistan is a new angle.

Also, he has unleashed battlefield officers and given them the ability to make live battle decisions, rather than wait for Washington approval. He did this months ago and it has been written about by MSM that it is admittedly paying great dividends.

It is also different to our previous administrations, as we aren't giving arbitrary timeline and announcing troop size.
Changing the pace and intensity and context of why we're there.
