I think it was technically woman slaughter, and a huge coverup conspiracy!

And his chances to be the president
not so simple as that

he could have the nomination in '72 if he'd wanted it, but he decided to let some time pass after chappaquiddick

he probably still could have had the nom for the asking in '76, but his senate seat was also up and he decided to play safe

in '80 he decided it was time, but he made the mistake of running against an incumbent for the nom -- the most difficult task in US prez politics. Ronald Reagan couldn't pull that off. Even teddy roosevelt couldn't do it.

bobby shrewdly waited until LBJ was out before running in '68. fortunately teddy got impatient.

He caused the accident (allegedly drunk)

He failed to render aid to the girl.

Climbed out of the water just to save himself.

Then went back to the Clan and stratigized for 4 hours on what to do with his family before calling the authorties.

It's not just manslaughter. The initial accident could be just an accident...because back then being drunk wasn't manslaughter...but to leave the scene of the crime...to not call for help? That's disregard for human life that he perpetuated twice.

He didn't plan her death...but he planned how to escape culpability while ignoring her plight.

That goes beyond manslaughter and reckless disregard for human life. That is 2nd degree murder.

No....but he should have faced a lengthy prison sentence for manslaughter aggravated by the fact he didn't report the accident in a timely manner.

Yes. He was drunk with an expired license and then covered up the accident for HOURS until he couldn't wait any longer.

quote:

in '80 he decided it was time, but he made the mistake of running against an incumbent for the nom -- the most difficult task in US prez politics. Ronald Reagan couldn't pull that off. Even teddy roosevelt couldn't do it.

Or he gave a horribly incoherent answer as to why he wanted to be President that made everyone think he was a moron/just thought it was his turn.
Ted Kennedy: The Day the Presidency Was Lost
quote:

In August of 1979, Kennedy was the overwhelming favorite to seize the Democratic nomination for president. The incumbent Jimmy Carter – staggered by soaring gas prices and a hostage crisis – seemed poised for a knockout by the last surviving brother of America's storied political dynasty. And then, all of a sudden, Kennedy's aura of inevitability was unexpectedly shattered.
. . . .
As the cameras rolled, Mudd popped the now-famous question: Why do you want to be president? Even if he had not been a Kennedy, what followed was stunning: a hesitant, rambling and incoherent nonanswer; it seemed to go on forever without arriving anywhere. Mudd threw another softball, and Kennedy swung and missed again. On the simple question that would define him and his political destiny, Kennedy had no clue.

Here is the question and Kennedy's answer

Here you go you hack:
Website with plenty of info from Senatorial Privilege by Leo Damore

For example:
quote:

The operative says the night of the accident Kennedy and some of his buddies were all drunk and drove to a party on the Island.

But what if they put together the party (which involved 6 married men and the 6 Boiler Room women)? Doesn't that throw the entire allegations by the CIA source out the window as the alleged motive is gone?

quote:

- Joseph Gargan and Paul Markham arrive in Edgartown aboard the Victura. They check into the Shiretown Inn, where Gargan had reserved rooms for them. Gargan had also secured rooms at the Inn for Ray LaRosa, Charles Tretter, and Senator Kennedy, who would arrive the following day.
- In a rented white Valiant, Gargan goes to Vineyard Haven to pick up the "Boiler Room Girls" who had arrived on the ferry and did not have a car. The young women are taken to their rooms at the Katama Shores Motor Inn.

quote:

- The party guests arrived at the Lawrence Cottage. The party was made up of six married men and six single women, crowded into a small living room. The counter dividing the living room from the kitchen was stocked with liquor Crimmins had purchased "for a price" in South Boston.

- Investigators later located the package store in South Boston where it was confirmed that Jack Crimmins had purchased three half gallons of vodka, four fifths of scotch, two bottles of rum and two cases of beer for the party at Chappaquiddick.

Absolutely. As a conservative resident of Massachusetts it's sickening that people in our state give him (and the entire Kennedy family) a pass. In Massachusetts you'll always get a pass if you're A.) A Democrat or B.) socially liberal. Ted was both. The liberals up here like to look down on the people in conservative states like Alabama who think differently than they do, but they have no right to do so. The state of Alabama didn't vote in Roy Moore due to allegations of sexual assault. Ted Kennedy was an entitled drunkard who was responsible for a woman's death and acted like a complete a coward, a far more egregious act. What was his punishment? He "only" got 62% of the vote and retained his Senate seat in the next election. People immediately came up to him and called his house begging for him to run again. Boy, Massachusetts voters really showed him. Frauds, the lot of you. The majority of the voters in my state are fricking stupid.

What would happen to you if your first phone call was to your lawyer, then no call to the cops for several hours, then find a dead girl in your car?

Maybe. Since the investigation was fricked up (intentionally), so we'll likely never know.

But he was definitely a manslaughterer. 100% that (if he wasn't an actual, literal murderer.)

I thought the general opinion was that Mary Jo was pregnant with Ted's child and he wanted her to abort but she was fighting him on it. The accident happened and he seized the opportunity.
