re: Vivek going up in flames

I don’t believe this. Neither of my kids got interviews from said companies and they had excellent GPAs from regular schools. I have always heard the affirmative action/DEI crap but never seen any real evidence of it. I have seen a lot of evidence of good old boy network hiring which you never hear anyone whine about on this site.
I have no idea about the realities in tech
But I can tell you that informally polling the GPAs and LSATs of students at any law school (or any other professional school metrics) would immediately provide the evidence you're talking about

Oh, now he clarifies after making fun of people for a day. Wonder why he chose now…

What's funny is that I was a successful high school athlete, the jock that Vivek was referring to, who turned down academic scholarships to schools like Rice and Tulane in order to go walk on at TCU to play baseball (before switching to football).
I feel like the experiences and lessons I learned playing sports were just as beneficial to me if not more than the experiences and lessons I got via my education. It's possible to be able to exceed at both sports and academics.
Where Vivek gets it wrong is he feels like we don't have enough qualified Americans for STEM roles which is bullshite. Go to any computer science related sub on reddit and its nothing but posts about how people graduated with masters degrees in computer science who regret majoring in CS because they can't find a job. Labor shortage my arse. If there was a labor shortage I wouldn't have had to move to Miami for my current job and my Iraq War vet former co-worker who got laid off with me wouldn't still be out of work.

When did this become a bad thing on here?
I need to bump old threads and posts by the same people who used to scoff at Leftists and their "living wage" or the "fight for 15"

We need to fight back on Elon’s Operation Pooperclip by any means and get back to Operation Paperclip!

Post the data. Not anecdotal evidence

Having your kids plugged in and doing well (even if not at elite levels) academically, athletically, in the community, socially, etc. should be the "normal" that Vivek refers to. That should be the benchmark. Some kids won't, of course, and that's ok. Hence we have some nerds.
I agree with him that our current "normal" is a problem, but not because it lacks a singular focus on academic and particularly STEM outcomes.

That X post/tweet is the first thing close to what I referenced initially.
It's sad how far this forum has fallen, where an old, popular theory can't make it by page 10

I'm a Trump guy, but he and Elon need to go back to doing whatever they were doing before they got involved.

Leftists/wokesters are closer to correct on many issues than classical liberals, it is just for the wrong reason, or wanting the wrong outcome from their observations.

Yeah but what that post gets wrong is that they weren't just "jocks" at all.
Maybe the poster understands that, of course.

Those guys were more like some past UW O lineman that majored in electrical engineering.
The somewhat rare smart jock.

That's a 180 stance for here, historically
I wonder when MAGA types will finally admit I was right about it's Leftism (and Trump's)

I'm not trolling
I've always been a proponent of freedom (well since late 2005)

Do you think there should be a minimum wage based on some mythical "living" scale?
