Well this was inevitable. Book coming out...

Washington Post article about it

quote:

George Washington gets romanticized by male biographers. Now a woman has taken him on.

quote:

Coe is only the third woman to write a complete Washington biography, and the first to do so in at least 40 years. And, she claims, the male gaze of other biographers has distorted our impressions of the first president into something that is both less accurate and less interesting.

quote:

Also, he could tell a lie, which really came in handy with the masterful spying operation he ran during the Revolutionary War.

Is this somehow a bad thing?

quote:

“Whenever we think of our first love or our first friend, our first experience doing anything, we don’t have the sharpest memory of it,” Coe explained. “We tend to romanticize it, and that’s what happened with George Washington.”

quote:

Many male historians have fallen victim to this romanticizing, too, she said. In other biographies, “there’s just a lack of interest in issues outside of his masculinity, outside of military endeavors, outside of the ‘great man’ history and mythologies we tell about our nation,” she said.

“great man” in quotation marks. These people are pure filth.

If the bitch wants to sell books she should have gone with another 'Lincoln was Gay' biography.

George Washington risked life and all that he owned, he left his wife and his farm in order to deliver the nation from a demanding European overlord.

The list is short indeed when naming people who have done more than George Washington for the USA.

Rewriting history to destroy shared ideals is kind of the point of cultural marxism.

We should all hope that we are not judged 100 years from now by the standards of the day. We may all have our statues torn down because we didn't date trans women...

The very first thing that Marxists have always done in any area that they take over is remove all symbols and teachings of the past, replace them with their own and then start re-educating the young. Exactly what happened in Cambodia,Vietnam, Zimbabwe, etc.

Look at what the Nazis did. Remember the Hitler Youth?

This is what happens when good people stay silent and do nothing. Many were scared to death to take a stand when it came to the Confederate statues, Robert E Lee, etc. The leftist succeeded in that venture and it just emboldened them to take the next step. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, etc. are the next step.

If you are naive enough to believe that the marxist/leftists are just trying to remove the " evils of slavery and evil slave owners" from our society you are badly mistaken. They will use that misconception to achieve their goal and then they will be own to the next. Washington, Jefferson, and eventually they will find fault and even try to destroy figures like Lincoln. Their goal is to destroy the past and re-educate to their likeness.

An imperfect man is imperfect. We already knew this. I have no problem with biographers pointing out someone's faults, but where I take umbrage is when the biographer approaches his/her subject with a pre-established agenda.

It's one thing to let the facts dictate your writing, it's quite another to ignore those facts you couldn't care less about (i.e. the subject's virtuous traits) and bring his less-than-savory traits to the fore, thus informing your readership that they now have the "full" story.

Sure...Washington had men whispering into his ear that slavery was evil, but he was also from an area of the country who did not think that same way. He grew up around slavery and even inherited his own slaves when he was just a boy.

And so what if he was worried about his legacy when he wrote into his will that the slaves of Mt. Vernon were to be freed upon his death? The point is that he freed them. Freedom is freedom, no matter the motivations. Bottom line...he didn't have to do that, but he did it anyway.

Slavery was this nation's original sin and, like the original sin of Adam and Eve, that original sin was eventually paid for in blood.

The "mythology" of Washington has been under attack by academia for decades.

This is just lazy and late writing.

They went off the rails when the gender of the historian was put front and center.

Different angles in historical review is vital as long as it's well researched and well written.

That cover though lol

I cannot support Washington until I know how he stood on transgendered rights and what pronoun George would have wanted.

Revisionist history by academia including books by leftist/left leaning authors started appearing on figures like Robert E. Lee/Thomas Jefferson around 25-30 years ago. That set the table for what you are seeing today. Re-educaion by revisionists, change perception of the figure into a villain or unsympathetic and then you can strike/remove.
Washington, Jefferson, Madison and like figures are next.

Not supporting her tall but the "great man" in quotes might be referring to one of the ways of viewing history, the great man theory as opposed to the trends and forces theory

George Washington helped to expel my ancestors from land they had spent 5 generations and 150 years merging European farming techniques with indigenous peoples' knowledge of native plants to transform the land to be agriculturally productive, and whom had no interest in European politics and wanted only to be left alone to worship and prosper in their own way.

Nobody's perfect.

Absolutely correct.

With that, do you support what this Vermin ultimately wants? I already know you don't....

But this is one of the issues of voting Democrat today. When you vote D, you support this whether or not you want to.

Discredit the founders and they can discredit their document(s). It’s part of their playbook.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

An alternative view of a man that so many have deified?

Sure, it may be interesting, and after all, he can take it.
