Is a canard. We have today a robust trade with the world.
Try again as what you said makes no sense.

I'd also just be amused by this conversation for now. After the mid terms we'll either be relieved and happy or will be thinking about how to pick up the pieces. If we are picking up the pieces, MAGAs time is over. It really is. MAGA is just a name and doesn't mean a whole lot.

I don't know about you but I am satisfied that Trump will no longer allow the Canadians to get the 70 billion from us they need to run their socialist schemes like health care for all. They can't fund it without us.

Uh, what, specifically, are you referencing?

I searched for Canada receiving $70B in US public money and search engines didn't give me any evidence of this.

Where is your retort on "We need to return to international trade" with the numbers I have shown.

It's the trade imbalance. And yes I know it is mostly from crude oil. Maybe we should get it from Venezuela instead. Because it seems the Canadians do use us to fund their stuff. That's what I'm talking about. We can quibble if it is 60, 70 or 100 billion. I didn't look it up for the specific number. Trump said 100 billion so it is probably less than that. I also don't know why we should use our industry like automotive to provide jobs to them. The bastards don't really like us anyway. I was in Canada recently and I can attest to that.

It doesn't really matter what it is, because it doesn't describe the rest of your post.

They were one of our closest allies, if not our closest ally (Mexico and UK are up there). After this trade war, they certainly are mad at us, especially after they already bent the knee to Trump in admin one with his new NAFTA. Doing this again 5-6 yeras later is just insane

Operative word here is were. You are correct with that. They were. But those times are passed. Look. I've listened to Canadians discuss this. Early British influence nearly demanded that they keep us at arms distance. They worked to install a nationalist streak in a largely passive population. The English needed us in WWII. So did the Canadians and thy were allies. It now has morphed into a progressive or socialist tactic to build anti-Americanism in their populace to get liberals elected. It largely succeeded in the East and in BC. They have a problem with the behemoth on the border. MAGA makes it worse. But it's not hard to find anti-Americanism up there. I'm not saying it won't get all better when we elect the next progressive President. They insult us constantly.

Only due to Trump's irrational tariff policy and trade war. That's not a good thing.

Economically, we need Canada and Mexico and the UK and the EU.

Pushing them to form deals that favor their new alliances and trade with China to our exclusion is bad for us, long-term.

If this trade war ends up pushing Canada, Mexico, the UK, and EU closer to China, it will go down as one of the biggest government failures in modern history.

From Pew Research:
How Canadians view the U.S.
A line chart showing that Canadian views of the U.S. are among their most negative in more than 20 years of polling.
About a third of Canadians (34%) have a favorable opinion of the United States today. This is down 20 percentage points since last year.

Sure they like us when we don't push back.
