Imagine the real estate cost of a seaside Valero station.
Then add the permitting costs and costs to meet regulations to put underground fuel tanks there.
For the Pacific Palisades neighborhood that burned, California demanded double containment around each septic system, and every house required its own septic.

A company would basically spend 1.1 billion to exit a state, expending a ton of capital in doing so, when they forcasted a recession? Yea. No.
They are giving an example of "many times you gotta spend some money to make money". They are dropping asinine costly regulation and punishing taxes for more friendly locales.
The people of CA wanted the resulting even higher fuel prices and less tax revenue they will have to make up. They should be smiling big.

All because Gavin Newsom stood motionless as this stupidly written bill, from a fringe union and a handful of socialist academics with an axe to grind
These are the same people who complain about rent being raised when a tax or fee is assessed on a landlord.
"But wait, that was supposed to be paid by the rich guy, not passed along to the consumer".
Dumbasses. I hope every single gas company pulls out and California roads are just fully electric. That would be the utopia they have been working towards.

Is that an image of an actual service station built into the cliff side California coast? That property view is probably worth half that payment.
The owner will have a new sign or stay with Valero. Just because a gas station has a certain sign doesn't mean that is who they buy fuel from. It does mean the fuel there has the Valero additives in it.

I have no idea if a recession is coming, but the DOW did reach an all-time high in 1929 before we crashed into the Great Depression, and in 2007 before the ‘08 crash.
