Patroling a fence line or establishment boarder is not the same as outside the wire patrols going through villages or taking the fight to the Taliban.
Even then the Marine mission in Afghanistan is in an advisory capacity right now

I wasn’t talking about what we were actually doing in Afghanistan, I was alluding to why are we still there, as the expeditionary force and not the occupying force.

As a whole two things
Counter terrorism and killing bad guys with special operations
And teaching the Afghans how to Army and Air Force better in advisory roles

Supposed to go there next year. Our sister company is supposedly heading over there and they needed bodies to augment their roster and one slot called for an E4 0341. I fit the billet so I was selected. Hope I get to go before I get out. Been told too many times that this time we’re really going for me to get my hopes up too much.
....yes I know that what I just said does not help my argument.

Promotions aren’t really what I’m after with it as I’m getting out basically as soon as we’d get back. And I will not mind the hazard pay.
However, it does kind of suck being a grunt and not having a CAR. Or never at least going downrange.

There’s a UDP to Georgia and then another UDP to Georgia following that that would culminate with the guys that trained the Georgians deploying to Afghanistan with them. There wasn’t a slot open for my billet on either of those as they were only taking 11s.
