Essentially, I agree with Rand that free trade is the cornerstone of capitalism. Unfortunately, he’s wrong because the rest of the world doesn’t participate in free trade so we frick ourselves. Sit this one out Rand.
The concept of free trade is just that, a concept. In practice EVERY trade partner is trying to gain advantage through regulations, crime, corruption, regulatory capture, monopolistic tactics, etc.
The fundamental question from a national politicians point of view should be, does this help the American people?
I know Rand's version of free trade helps corporations and Wall Street but it does a shitty job for Main Street as it exfiltrates wealth from our country at a slow grind pace.

No, youre in this mess because politicians cannot stop spending money we dont have, and the biggest violator was your Orange God during 2020.
To think the ones who vote no on this stupidity are the problem, makes you a progressive.

What is the goal of the tariffs? This board just has some preconceived notion place there by Trump I guess that "we are being ripped off." How?
Is it to raise revenue?
Bring manufacturing back?
Break China?
Level the playing field (whatever that means)?

I'm pretty disappointed in Rand siding with these three Republicans that constantly vote Democrat.
Do you get it yet? Can't spell "Grandstand" without "RAND".
He's just a more loosey-goosey, feel good version of Collins & Murkowski.

What is the goal of the tariffs?
1st, to protect industry vital to national security.
2nd, to raise tax revenue.

Recently, the Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) released its 2024 Liberty Index, a comprehensive legislative scorecard ranking U.S. Senators based on their commitment to limited government, individual rights, and free markets. U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) secured the highest Liberty Score, earning a perfect 100, making him the most liberty minded senator in the U.S. Senate.
“Kentuckians elected me to the Senate because I want to end our debt and cut taxes,” said Dr. Paul. “I want to get the government out of your way, so you, your family, your job, and your businesses can all thrive. And I’ll continue to vote that way.”
