Caught my eye too... they haven't restored that yet? Come on, Pete!

Wait, it WAS changed back, Feb 2025.

quote:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under the Trump administration changed NOTAM from "Notice to Air Missions" back to "Notice to Airmen" in February 2025. This reversed the 2021 change, made under the Biden administration, which renamed it to "Notice to Air Missions" to be more inclusive of all aviators and missions, including unmanned aerial systems.

Yet isn’t it a peculiar coincidence that many of the nations targeted for regime change by the United States since the end of the Cold War have dared pose a challenge to the primacy of the USD as the world’s reserve currency?

No, not really.

Trump isn't going after Venezuela because of the dollar. I have no doubt it could be PART of the reason, but he very clearly and publicly started this because Venezuela wouldn't stop running drug boats to our country.

Well which is it?

While Venezuela is indeed a transit point for cocaine traffickers to facilitate shipping routes to international markets, it is not running drugs to our country in these open-cockpit watercraft with outboard motors.

Those type of boats are specifically built for speed and maneuverability in coastal areas, not for trans-oceanic smuggling on the high seas.

Putting aside the fact such boats have design limitations that make them totally unsuitable for ferrying in deep waters, it would no make economic sense to transport drugs across long distances on the high seas in such boats as most of the cargo capacity would be needed for fuel.

You voted for Trump because of Tulsi and RFK personal agendas?

Both. It might be a factor. It is not THE factor, as you are suggesting.

You’re good with US Servicemen dying to overthrow Maduro solely because of Venezuela’s geographical proximity to us?

We still haven't even recovered all the dead bodies from WW3 in Iran. I vote no new dead soldiers or overly dramatic takes.

Nobody is invading Venezuela. Just targeted strikes against cartels.

And I did not say it was the ONLY factor. I specifically asked whether it might offer a partial explanation.

I indeed suspect the main reason behind the heightened pressure on Venezuela is because Venezuela is one of Russia’s primary trading partners in the Western Hemisphere. The Trump Administration’s saber rattling over Venezuela can thus be understood as part of a broader strategy to counter Russian influence in Latin America.

Trump has demonstrated he adheres to using Teddy Roosevelt’s proverbial “big stick” as a negotiating cudgel in pursuing his foreign policy objectives. Isolating an ally of Russia very likely could also be a ploy used by the Trump Administration to bring Putin to the negotiating table over the impasse in Eastern Europe.

I indeed hope this is the case and further hope that Trump has no true intention of waging a wider war with Venezuela. With all that said, the main point here is that targeting Venezuela for drug trafficking is far from the most important factor at play here.

Russia, Venezuela Bilateral Relations: 2025 Update…

…Bilateral trade between Venezuela and Russia has been increasing and reached about US$270 million in 2024, a 70% increase over the previous year.

Russia has also diversified its range of exports to Venezuela by supplying high-tech goods (machine tools and equipment) and mineral products. The share of shipments of agricultural goods to the country also increased significantly. Venezuela was the third largest importer of Russian wheat in Latin America last year.

A protocol on cooperation within the framework of the EAEU tariff preferences system was also signed. This will simplify customs procedures for the importation of Venezuelan goods to Russia that fall under the preferential regime of the EAEU (importation at 25% reduced customs duties), which will drive further growth of bilateral trade.

The main question now is the potential for US military intervention in the country, which would elicit a response from Russia and probably China as well. The situation remains tense and is illustrative of the geopolitical and military battles going on concerning global resources.
