quote:War is the failure of rational diplomacy. Neither it nor its spoils are necessarily rational, nor fair, nor just. War crimes are defined by the winner. That is not rational. What we, the United States, have done to instigate this situation is not rational either.
I’m really surprised that rational people believe Ukraine should roll over and let Russia rule it.
My belief is the killing should stop.
Hopefully, Ukraine can get some consolation in that process. They won't get their Eastern Oblasts back. Some sort of neutral self-determinative independence is about the best they could hope for there. Self-determination for those states was solidly on the table 18mos ago. It probably isn't now.
Also, unaccountable US cashflow into Ukraine, a money-laundering vehicle, should stop. Any monies spent there should be HEAVILY audited and tracked. Likewise, NATO expansion, the culprit here, should stop.

Technically Russia is a A semi-presidential republic.
Described by wiki:
quote:
A semi-presidential republic, or dual executive republic, is a republic in which a president exists alongside a prime minister and a cabinet, with the latter two being responsible to the legislature of the state. It differs from a parliamentary republic in that it has a popularly elected head of state; and from the presidential system in that the cabinet, although named by the president, is responsible to the legislature, which may force the cabinet to resign through a motion of no confidence

Yes, when you have no weapons or conscripts, what other choice do you have?

For having no weapons and conscripts, they’ve put up a hell of a fight for the last 21 months.

Putin’s political opinions are irrelevant to saving what is left of Ukraine. You really want this meatgrinder to continue? Ukraine losses are likely 500K already.

I thought Ukraine was winning? Isn’t that why they need more and more billions from the US?

How can self-determination be on the table for an invaded country? Putin invaded eastern Ukraine to free them from Ukraine? NOT to claim it for himself?

You really want to concede to a communist dictator?

This is NBC’s nice way of saying Ukraine is defeated:
quote:
Biden administration officials also are worried that Ukraine is running out of forces, while Russia has a seemingly endless supply, officials said. Ukraine is also struggling with recruiting and has recently seen public protests about some of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s open-ended conscription requirements.

I’m pretty sure he is talking about the self-determination of the eastern states of Ukraine that wanted to be a part of Russia before the war.

Which nation's leader in this conflict isn't acting this way, in your view?
