You know how it goes, the retraction is on the bottom of the last page. Damage is done. The modern equivalency is the false tweet being RT'd thousands of times and the correction being RT'd like ten times.

Agreed. To their credit WaPo fact checker also hit them pretty hard, saying that while the change is the right thing to do, it's really disturbing it published like that.

They have some culpability in what happened yesterday. Any little popcorn fart of a leftist conspiracy theory gets airtime for days for the past year.
People out there actually believe that Russians hacked our election, Scalise is a member of the KKK, or that Trump is racist. That's fricking ridiculous and it drives unstable people into violence.

They've got zero credibility on political stories anyway.
Even Comey testified before congress last week that two stories the NYT published about Muh Russians were complete bullshite.
