UPDATED: On Day of Scalise Shooting, NYT Falsely Blames Palin for Giffords

Good news is that people, including Jake Tapper and some lefties, made a big enough stink about this that NYT was forced to change it. But I have little doubt they did it quite reluctantly.
"Was this attack evidence of how vicious American politics has become? Probably. In 2011, Jared Lee Loughner opened fire in a supermarket parking lot, grievously wounding Representative Gabby Giffords and killing six people, including a 9-year-old girl. At the time, we and others were sharply critical of the heated political rhetoric on the right. Before the shooting, Sarah Palin’s political action committee circulated a map of targeted electoral districts that put Ms. Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs. But in that case no connection to the shooting was ever established.
Conservatives and right-wing media were quick on Wednesday to demand forceful condemnation of hate speech and crimes by anti-Trump liberals. They’re right. Liberals should of course be held to the same standard of decency that they ask of the right."
"Correction: June 15, 2017
An earlier version of this editorial incorrectly stated that a link existed between political incitement and the 2011 shooting of Representative Gabby Giffords. In fact, no such link was established."
This is unreal. Some of you may have heard me bring up the fact that the ed board for NYT blamed the GOP for Orlando, but this may be worse. No link because frick them.
FWIW I'm not shy about the fact I think Palin is an idiot. But this is just complete dishonesty, and it's not hidden on DU, it's by America's most prominent newspaper.

Have you read Bernies response to raise money after the Gifford shooting?
anuary 2011, Senator Bernie Sanders decided to capitalize on the shooting of Democratic Representative Gabby Giffords by sending out a fundraising email citing the tragedy.

Sanders wrote: “This horrendous act of violence is not some kind of strange aberration for this area where, it appears, threats and acts of violence are part of the political climate. Nobody can honestly express surprise that such a tragedy finally occurred,” adding, “Have right-wing reactionaries, through threats and acts of violence, intimidated

But I believe Senator McCain and other Arizona Republicans need to do more. As the elder statesman of Arizona politics McCain needs to stand up and denounce the increasingly violent rhetoric coming from the right-wing and exert his influence to create a civil political environment

What do you expect ? After the pulse night club shooting, the nyt blamed the atmosphere of hate created by conservatives.
The nyt is just a safe space for its mostly liberal subscribers. It's a business and it doesn't want to upset it's paying cudtomers

You and I have had differences before, esquire.
But I think that you are seeing just how vile these people are....it's not hyperbole, it's insane.
The thing is this was ALWAYS this way, they just were able to hold it together enough to put a thin veneer on it, and the masses bought it.
Now we have seen Trump take a rotary sander to that veneer like me as a child working on the family sailboat in springtime.

This one in particular has people raging.
Honestly, I just roll my eyes at the gun control shite, or the "GOP does it too" shite. But these are just blatant falsehoods that they know are false and publish anyway. It's unbelievable, even for NYT.

Nice to see you've started.

You know I've never touched any of that.
That doesn't deal with any of the Trump movement.

There is a fair argument that the mainstream left is the far left, especially the mainstream left in liberal utopias like NYC.

The nyt knows the link between loughner and Palin is bs. This is being done knowingly. It's being done with complete dishonesty
