Section 1:
I don’t know about in other states, but in Ca the company doesn’t determine what jobs are exempt/non-exempt. It’s determined by the actual job done and duties performed.
Secrion 2:
In my union experience, collective bargaining works for the shitty employee and against the star performer. If I’m getting the same raise, why should I work harder than I have to?
While unions did have a place in history, very few jobs now require that kind of protection. OSHA and other regulatory agencies and laws since enacted have rendere them virtuallly useless.

The Germans did Unions well. I'd prefer unions to things like minimum wage.

Just to name a few. Unions created the American middle class when the only middle class there was consisted of people with educations employed to manage the less educated. Labor unions are responsible for raising the standard of living for all working people...... members and non-members alike. Is the labor movement perfect? Far from it....but overall the things we have accomplished far outweigh the negatives.
What are some of the things about the labor movement that are bad?
Protecting shitty employees as well as good ones.
Relying on the state to enforce labor actions.....no one should be compelled to join a union. When labor was at its best it was illegal to belong.....folks joined because they liked what labor could do for them. Compulsory membership has ruined the labor movement....right to work laws will eventually strengthen labor because labor leaders will once again have to work to organize....relying on the state is a bad idea.
Almost all surviving labor unions in the United States today exist because management in those industries ALLOW them to exist. It’s far more cost effective to negotiate 1 contract than thousands. Company unions are a bastardization of what labor unions should be but almost all labor unions today are just that....management and labor officials work together to keep workers in line.
If you think unions have outlived their usefulness take a look at NLRB cases in recent years....10s of thousands of workers win grievances against employers every year in the United States.....if it weren’t for the specter of organization management would run over labor like it always has.....even with almost no organization in the US capital will more or less play by the rules because they know what will happen otherwise.
As far as unions driving jobs over seas you have to be a complete idiot to buy that. American workers are expected to compete in a mythical free market when in fact they are subsidizing their competition and have been for at least 78 years. The free market for American workers is akin to joining a fist fight with both arms tied behind your back. Zoning regulations and building codes alone make it nearly impossible for American workers to compete with worker who live in cardboard shacks. US military stabilization of the world has crippled US workers....there is no way to build shite in third world shite holes without the US Military guaranteeing the relative safety of your investment. Soicialism is only verboten to American workers....it’s perfectly acceptable for American workers to finance socialism in the rest of the world....and then we wonder why we struggle to compete.

All part of legislation now.
Therefore Unions are no longer needed. Thanks for proving that point.

Government employee unions are a joke. There are enough laws on the books to protect employees without the need for unions.
How do those laws stay on the book? Because labor fights tooth and nail to maintain them....for members and none members alike.
As far as organized crime and unions go the history of capitals state sanctioned brutality created that monster. The state always sides with capital.....there wouldn’t be any labor laws today were it not for organized crime providing protection from the state. A bad situation all the way around but when you are faced with 2 corrupt entities...the state and organized crime....the one you can afford to pay and live with is the only choice you have. There wasnt a third option for labor.....either brutalized by the state or extorted by the mob.

Find common ground
The common ground is; whether you you $30k, $300K or $3M, you want to keep what you earn. You don’t want your income taken and given to those who want handouts.
You don’t want a handout. You want the government to handle those things specifically outlined for them to handle and to leave you alone to live your life.

Their wages do not equal their productivity. I worked out with a guy from the GM plant back in the 80s. He was telling me about his new house. I asked him how much he made. Him: '70K a year.' Me: 'What's your job?' Him: 'I'm in quality control.' Me: "What do you do?" Him: 'When a truck comes off the line I check to make sure the removable ash tray is in place and the floor mats are down." The plant closed and the union workers all lost their jobs.
One of you is exaggerating. $70k in 1989 is equal to $143 k today. Not a chance in hell an assembly line UAW member was making that kind of money in the 80”s.

They have bullied their way politically in order to achieve an unfair advantage. Originally, it was the right to strike. However, the right to strike began to include those supplying the company, not the employees. In the end, the lack of competitiveness created by the unfairness bankrupted so many companies, the jobs left the country, and the workers then lived in a rust belt of their creation. We are in a world economy. We compete with the word and need to be competitive in cost of our widgets, or else our employers can't sell their products.

Labor unions collect dues. These dues end up as political contributions to the Dimwits. The Dimwits pass legislation favorable to unions, including government contracts for union only workplaces. Labor unions collect the dues and the cycle of corruption begins all over again.
Then there is OSHA, the EOC, anti-discrimination laws, environmental regulations, countless other government agencies and regulations, etc. With all of these government agencies and regulations, the only role left for unions is to protect the jobs of those incompetent union members and extort pay raises from employers, making the cost of living higher for everyone.
I would also mention the union thugs that show up at conservative rallies committing violence.
Why do we need unions?
