I mean seriously it isn't like we didn't have 1000s of wall paintings that portrayed Egyptians as looking like middle easterners and 10s of 1000s of statues depicting the same thing

quote:

like someone in Asia claiming to be descended from Genghis Khan: there's a decent chance of it being true.

A huge proportion of people in western Asia are descended from GK. I recall a number on the order of 30%, but that seems too high. I know it was a huge proportion.

quote:

An international group of geneticists studying Y-chromosome data have found that nearly 8 percent of the men living in the region of the former Mongol empire carry y-chromosomes that are nearly identical. That translates to 0.5 percent of the male population in the world, or roughly 16 million descendants living today.

Add another 8% for women would would have the same parentage = 16%

/\ DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER POSTED /\

I will wear my dunce cap for the rest of the week.

be merciful -

This works out. The film representations used people with aqualine features.

I presume the complaints were from black people.

Onward.

As do the actual mummies - you won't find a mummy with sub-Saharan features.

We can tell ancient Egyptians were not black based on their art that depicted their battles with black and other people's. And of course, modern Egyptians are not ancient Egyptians. They are the descendants of the people who conquered them a long time ago.

It looks like the estimates are around 8% of males in certain regions of Asia. But I find it crazier that 0.5% of all males WORLDWIDE are decendants.

Descent from Genghis Khan
quote:

Zerjal et al. (2003)[7] identified a Y-chromosomal lineage present in about 8% of the men in a large region of Asia (about 0.5% of the world total).
Now I'm going to listen to some Hardcore History since this got me in the mood.

The article misrepresents the study a great deal. Interesting study, but it doesn't cover the period the most popular rulers or of course the Era when most of the pyramids were built.

More likely, it's the OP's presentation.

It would still be ~ 8% since the denominator (the population) also doubled.

I'm not sure why this matters other than for scientific record.

Are you claiming Khufu was a black man who enslaved people and forced them to build the Great Pyramid?
