In Shreveport’s case they have a large captive healthcare worker community and oil money to leech from...I hope this puts south Shreveport secession into overdrive.

Take notice of the three words that I've placed in bold.

You tried to imply that Shreveport is a "major city".

One city has already put this idea into action. In 2019, Stockton, Calif., launched the nation’s first mayor-led guaranteed-income demonstration, with the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration (SEED) giving 125 randomly selected recipients $500 a month for 24 months.

It’s not UBI. It’s just another entitlement program. They’re baiting and switching.

Mayor Lumumba (Jackson, Miss.) is supportive of the Magnolia Mother’s Trust, a non-government program that gives $1,000 a month to Black mothers living in extreme poverty. Mayor Carter (St. Paul, Minn.) issued a one-time cash infusion of $1,000 to about 1,250 families with children in response to COVID-19. Mayor Garcetti’s (Los Angeles) Angeleno Campaign provided prepaid debit cards of $700 to $1,500 to residents whose total household income fell below the poverty line before COVID-19. And Mayor Brown (Compton, Calif.) announced a partnership with the nonprofit Give Directly, which gives cash directly to people living in poverty, to distribute $1,000 to families that receive food stamps benefits.

None of those are UBI. In fact, they’re the opposite of UBI. They’re targeted to a specific group and based on need. That’s just another welfare payment.

Looks to me like the taxpaying portion of the city needs to break off, it's the only way they'll learn.

Just keep that bullshite across the river and out of Bossier City.

The article in today's Shreveport Times states:
quote:

While funding sources can vary, Perkins made it clear that private funding would be utilized for Shreveport's UBI program
I think if he said otherwise all hell would break loose. The article adds that the announcement "came as a surprise to City Council members." Also funny that the story cannot be found on the Times' online version.

Give impoverished people with kids free money.

You get more impoverished people having kids to get the free money.

This is already one of the problems plaguing black communities.

Unwed young mothers have kids, don’t give the state the name of the father or say they don’t know it, so the state gives them more welfare funds and food stamps. Encourages having more kids, discouraged the black nuclear family and causes more kids living in poverty and without a family to guide them who end up in trouble.
