The Texas education board on Friday approved a required reading list for more than 5 million public school students that includes Bible passages, widening conservative efforts to push Christian teachings in U.S. classrooms.
The Texas State Board of Education, which is controlled by Republicans, approved the list of over critics who argued the titles lack diversity and blur the separation of church and state enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Supporters say Judeo-Christian traditions were fundamental to the nation’s founding and that should be reflected in the public school curriculum.
The proposal, which mandates literary works such as Charles Dickens’ “Great Expectations” alongside passages from the New Testament, has been closely followed by education observers who say it appears to be the first of its kind in the nation. It is a departure from letting schools or teachers decide what students read.

Since the bible is the number one best seller of all time, it makes sense for students to read it.

My sophomore year of high school we read the Bible all the time. My teacher was hard core Baptist and she said we should all be exposed to the most popular book in history since it was world literature class
I didnt argue but I did wonder how she got away with it

I guess all who disagree with this decision will have no choice but to leave Texas forever in protest.
What a shame.
This doesn’t exist though.

Same way you all would be if they forced any other religious reading. More " small gubment conservative" exceptions when its convenient.

We simply understand that culture is more important than being able to tell everyone how much of a small government conservative we are.
I realize that faith in Christ leads to a high-trust society more than faith in "small government." Small government isn't going to protect us from Islam. Christianity will.
Small government doesn't protect our children from grooming by gays and trannies. A society that understands and appreciates Christian morals does.

Christ is King of kings, not the Constitution of the U.S., and our God is the triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, not "small government".

We already do that when we hear of schools that force DEI, LGBTQ, and other destructive and anti-Christian philosophies and worldviews on children.quote:Same way you all would be if they forced any other religious reading.

I'd like to see them make HS and college required courses based on The Black Book of Communism.

I wonder how the schools that take govt money under the new TX school choice law will be affected by this.
They need to be told they need to too.

I believe the education board specified it must be the King James Version for good measure.
These debates always remind me of the great 1920s governor Ma Ferguson when asked if schools in the valley should teach some courses in Spanish.
“If English was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for Texas schools.”
