Yet Black Friday sales went up 9% from 2024. Seems those people with the "not good" feelings are spending more this year than last. Logic dictates that the "not good" feelings folks would spend less because they believe they are worse off.

Currently annual deficits are expected to be $2T+ for as far as forecasting goes into the future. In no way is that sustainable and the longer it goes in, the worse it's going to get
We're going to hit $1T/yr in just interest in 2026. That's about 1/3 of all income tax revenue, just going to interest, every year, and it's never predicted to go down. Ever.

But here we are passing CRs and mroe spending by the day.

This doesn't mean anything especially when one looks at the current credit card numbers for defaults, overdue balances, etc. Most Americans don't even have $1000 for an emergency

Whose fault is that Ron?

The people who started and continued the massive unnecessary spending from March of 2020 to current day - so Lord and Savior Trump & Biden. Ask yourself this - why hasn't Trump attempted to revert to pre covid spending levels?

It doesn't? If people have "not good" feelings, then why are the spending? If they believe that their life is bad and getting worse, they'd be saving. Unless they are stupid.

That's a choice. A choice young people have been making since the beginnig of time. When I was in my 20's, I spent money today that I wouldn't make until March or April.

That's been true since the begging of credit. If you're not stupid and you feel you are worse off today than last year and you believe it will get worse you will spend less this year than last.

You can't be this stupid can you? Americans won't spend money unless they have it to spend is your position? Lord have mercy.

thats not how I purchase holiday stuff. I doubt you do either.

There is a new paradigm, though. People have maxed out credit, so they are doing Buy Now, Pay Later.

Nobody perpetuating this inane narrative will tell you how THEY are worse off.

It’s funny like that.

Food prices. They are getting worse. Food inflation is higher than historical averages.

That's what you got? Only a stupid person would spend MORE (housing, food and necessities excluded) this year than last if they believe they are worse off and things are getting worse.

A smart person doesn't, this is true. My point is that IF I feel worse off today than last year AND I feel things are going to get worse for me and my family, I'm going to hope for the best (but plan for the worse) and spend lest for non-necessities. Most Christmas gifts are not necessities.

Youre looking at the ideal. I'm talking about the average American that MAGA overvalues so badly.

Are you aware of the debt, credit, and savings statistics for your average American? You can't be this dumb. Maybe 'stout' or 'Bard' will jump in this thread and educate you on how god damn dumb your premise is.

Cash or credit, they're still spending more this year than last year when they feel/belive they are worse off and it's getting worse. Their actions of spending 9% more this year don't not support that they really "feel worse".
