Only $148M?

Surely the outraged "liberals" could just opt to pay the IRS a bit more to make up for that shortfall.

Cutting NEA could be the coolest thing Trump has done all week.

I don't think any rational budget professional would take an across the board haircut first before cutting wasteful spending.

If your company is in a hole, you don't cut 10% from sales and marketing, 10% from general and administrative and 10% from capital spending when you can just cancel the NetJets membership.
Well I didn't mean every aspect of every department. They would have to prioritize.

Besides your example really doesn't work since my point is, unlike the business world (or just the real world), the government has been immune to the necessities of efficiency and the accountability for inefficiency. And that's everywhere in government so everbody should have to face those realities, not continued to be sheltered from them.

New Orleans and Baton rouge could use some mormons to clean up the city.
That's about as much of a mismatch of a city and a culture, maybe Vegas and Amsterdam aside, that you could feasibly make.

The problem with liberalism is that it sees only government as a source for good. Thus, if someone wants to cut government funding for something, that must mean they hate it. The National Endowment for the Arts does some great work, as does NPR and PBS, and they deserve to be supported. However, they don't need the government to survive. Their works stand for themselves, and their donors will ensure that they keep operating. There is literally zero reason for the federal government to be funding them.

Thank you.

You know, I was always under the belief that building sports facilities injected jobs and other revenue streams into the local economy. Turns out that isn't exactly the case. Thanks actually for opening my eyes on something.

It's basic math. Sure, a superbowl or a big game will generate huge amounts of spending at local bars, resturants, hotels, taxi companies, tourist areas, etc, but that revenue is only taxed at around 5-10%. Not only that, but a lot of the time it simply shifts consumer purchases from one thing to another.

Maybe a guy who attended the Superbowl and spent thousands of dollars in the city would have built a man-cave instead. That would have generated revenue for the economy as well.

Good point.

Essentially your point is based upon the indisputable premise that the government is a successful business only because people must buy its product.

Exactly, but I don't feel comfortable with the world successful--too positive. How about a "business that manages to stay open."

That's very predictable. I mean do you see him or any of his Trumpkins having any appreciation whatsoever for the arts? The arts is as foreign to them as Nascar is to gays.

Your post is ignorant but typical.

Honest question does anyone know what this NEA provides funding for or to? Is this for public school arts or is that in education? I have no clue if this is meaningful or how it will impact the "arts".

It will never pass. NEA and things like pbs are massive tax write offs for corporations. Just another trump lie.

Having zero government funding doesn't change their tax exempt status, corporations and individuals will be able to continue donating all they want.

I think there should be deeper cuts and more layoffs. A lot of those people aren't needed and we can turn Virginia red again.

Speaking of that, you could REALLY make libs heads explode by expanding DC to a large area west of the Potomac.
