It's bad, I suppose, but it could be worse.

quote:

President Donald Trump is by no means popular—compared with his predecessors his approval rating has been remarkably low his entire tenure in the White House. But there's some small solace this week: Trump's approval rating is, at least for the moment, a hair better then where former President Bill Clinton stood at the same point in his first term.

Different polling firms peg Trump at varying levels of approval, but the RealClearPolitics average had him at 39.8 percent Tuesday while the weighted average from FiveThirtyEight had him at exactly 39 percent. Not great numbers, but still better than Clinton. On day 138 of his presidency, just 37.8 percent of Americans approved of the job he was doing, according to FiveThirtyEight. Clinton is, of course, the husband of Trump's Democratic opponent in the 2016 president election, Hillary Clinton.

That was when Bill Clinton was his own worst enemy at that point. But he still wised up and got a whole lot more self disciplined and learned how shrewdly navigate the pitfalls of the job.

Trump is his own worst enemy right now.

For example, his big mouth has been getting himself into a lot of trouble lately. For example, he completely fricked up the Comey firing and made a scene out of it and that pissed Comey and the FBI off and now he has to deal with his testimony and a special counsel in his best friend. Also, Trump has a very nasty habit of contradicting his staff more than once whether it be interviews or shitposting on Twitter and it is exactly why he has a lot of trouble finding good communications staffers and why his communications director quit.

Trump's biggest problem right now is a complete lack of self discipline and not knowing when to keep his mouth shut at the most right times.

Someone who managed to turn a couple hundred million dollars into several billion dollars, launch and run a global business with assets all over the world, own an absurdly popular show that ran for 14 seasons, produce and raise 4 successful kids, and then beat 16 candidates for the GOP nomination and then win the Presidency with very little help whatsoever from his own party and big donors.....

Is most assuredly not a moron at all.

And quite a bit of that is of Trump's own doing and was so very preventable and he has no one to blame but himself for his own missteps.

Bill Clinton was on his way to being a one term president and his low approval was the reason the GOP prevailed in the 1994 midterms.

His low ratings in 93 were the result of one word. Waco.

Supporting the Brady bill didn't help. Neither did NAFTA or hilldogs healthcare plan.

NAFTA signed late 1993. I'd have to look further at hillary's health care plan to be certain.

NAFTA was signed in early 94 and Hillarycare was late 93. This dip in his popularity came after non stop coverage of the clusterfrick of Waco.

Clinton signed it in December of 93. Went into law in january of 94.

You're right about Waco being detrimental. I was more focused on Clinton's lack of popularity going into the midterms of 94 than with a direct Trump comparison.

and how bill clinton was impeached based off an investigation with a special prosecutor, and how that impeachment was due to obstruction of justice.
