I like Trump’s response. The problem will lie in implementation.
Deputy commander of a Division in Europe dies under “questionable” circumstances (e.g. heart attack with no cardiac history). Do we drop the Tabiat bridge in Tehran on the mere assumption that Iran was responsible?
Someone kills two members of the 82nd when they are out drinking on Friday night. Do we just assume it was Iran and turn their refineries into burning piles of scrap metal?
I suspect that Trump and our generals intended to create EXACTLY this uncertainty, and it may well even create an even-greater deterrent, BUT we WILL face major international condemnation even if we are correct, and a true SHITSTORM if we are wrong.
I have no doubt that future Iranian aggression will fall even more firmly into these “questionable” categories, specifically to put our actions under an international microscope.
