President Trump said his campaign was spied on in 2016, and he warned those who were allegedly involved that their actions were “treason” and that they deserve “long jail sentences”.
“My Campaign for President was conclusively spied on. Nothing like this has ever happened in American Politics. A really bad situation. TREASON means long jail sentences, and this was TREASON!” Trump said in a tweeted.
Sara Carter's website.
She is not wrong ... neither is President Trump!

Imagine being a career politician, playing the game, doing what you are told, dealing with life and death judgement calls on a daily basis. Participating in the guidance and laws of the greatest country in the world.
Then imagine a rookie politician reality TV star throwing your arse in the slammer for treason, because you were too stupid to force him out of office.
Must be so fricking infuriating. And hilarious for the rest of us.

I’m going to contradict the Magnificent Orange Bastard on this one.
By the strict legal definition, it’s not treason. It could, however, fall under the definition of sedition.
Throw in espionage, obstruction and other charges, and quite a few people from the Obama administration could be looking at having a very bad day in the near future.

I agree. Their actions were treasonous as defined by the dictionary, but not Treason as defined by the US Code. I expect other charges to come when and if we get to that point.

The punishment has to be more severe than just jail to send a message that this stunt cannot happen again. There was a reason death was the sentence in our country's founding, so that it wouldn't happen again.

It's technically not treason since treason requires aiding and abetting a foreign enemy (specifically during war time, but that's debatable). And I don't know if it's sedition since Trump wasn't actually in office at the time. Whatever it was, it was likely criminal.

Seditious clown.
But yeah, I get your point. My money is on Brennan.

Until some dem president comes in and pardons them. Or even worse, the statute of limitations runs out and they never get convicted anyway.
Declas should have happened in 2017. No excuse for it.

The dems themselves have argued the case for treason since Trump became president. They actively assisted Russia, which according to the dems is an enemy of the US, in destroying our democratic process and overthrowing our duly elected government.
Spinning a bit, but I do find it humorous that the left has deemed the country they conspired with as an enemy, thereby muddying the waters in this situation.
I don't care what we call it, Trump is right about the prison time.

Sedition isn’t a crime committed against a single person. It’s subversion of the government/governmental process.

I think he knows it isn't technically treason, but maybe if he starts throwing that word around it'll scare the hell out of some people.
Obama's Iran deal? maybe treason.

Mueller-Summary, Executive Summary, Vol I, pg. 6:
'Summer 2016. Russian outreach to the Trump Campaign continued into the summer of 2016, as candidate Trump was becoming the presumptive Republican nominee for President. On June 9, 2016, for example, a Russian lawyer met with senior Trump Campaign officials Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and campaign chairman Paul Manafort to deliver what the email proposing the meeting had described as "official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary." The materials were offered to Trump Jr. as "part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump." The written communications setting up the meeting showed that the Campaign anticipated receiving information from Russia that could assist candidate Trump's electoral prospects, but the Russian lawyer 's presentation did not provide such information.
Days after the June 9 meeting, on June 14, 2016, a cybersecurity firm and the DNC announced that Russian government hackers had infiltrated the DNC and obtained access to opposition research on candidate Trump, among other documents.
In July 2016 , Campaign foreign policy advisor Carter Page traveled in his personal capacity
to Moscow and gave the keynote address at the New Economic School. Page had lived and worked
in Russia between 2003 and 2007 . After returning to the United States, Page became acquainted
with at least two Russian intelligence officers, one of whom was later charged in 2015 with
conspiracy to act as an unregistered agent of Russia . Page 's July 2016 trip to Moscow and his
advocacy for pro-Russian foreign policy drew media attention . The Campaign then distanced itself
from Page and, by late September 2016, removed him from the Campaign.
July 2016 was also the month WikiLeaks first released emails stolen by the GRU from the
DNC. On July 22, 2016, WikiLeaks posted thousands of internal DNC documents revealing
information about the Clinton Campaign. Within days, there was public reporting that U.S.
intelligence agencies had "high confidence" that the Russian government was .behind the theft of
emails and documents from the DNC and within a week of the release, a foreign government informed the FBI about its May 2016 interaction with Papadopoulos and his statement that the Russian government could assist the Trump Campaign.
On July 31, 2016 , based on the foreign government reporting, the FBI opened an investigation into potential coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump Campaign.'
Yep, someone.
