You can't be serious with that question? Wait this is TD with uber policy experts who think taking a sledgehammer into a swamp will work for everything.
You send the US military into places like Sinaloa and Jalisco, be prepared for lots of new "problems". SF are not going to do the trick.
If you want 120 million people to your south really pissed at you , be my guest and send in military units for a protracted occupation of their territory. You think violence from drugs is bad......try wholesale violence.

Correct
Everything is controlled by the $$.
The issue is American demand for drugs is off the charts.

But I will say this and we are done here. Its been signed and Trump will do whats necessary to protect innocent people in the USA and there is not a DAMN thing you can do about it.
If this turns into another MIC forever war, will you admit it was a mistake?

So we should just sit back and surrender the field and do nothing about the supply side?
Time and history have proven that there isn't much we can do to stop the supply side.
Only reducing demand will kill that.

What happens when the producer of a popular product shuts down? Somebody takes its place cause they want that money.
Roger seems to think that US growers would not step up to take that money. He thinks only the cartels can do that.
So you want to legalize domestic production of cocaine, heroin, etc.?

Sure it will. Targeted airstrikes, assassinations and SOF raids will work wonders. You just have to keep doing them week in and week out for probably a long time. It’ll work though.

Until the next group takes over.
Make no mistake. We can kill the current cartel leadership. That's not the discussion. The discussion is the long-term solution, and not just a never-ending game of whack a mole like the WOT that we just admitted defeat in.

It would be safer and cheaper just to pay cartels to control the flow of drugs and illegals into this country.
And more effective.

Realistically until you can buy these drugs from a store, you will have a black market for drugs. Even after, in some cases where it's cheaper.

We can kill the next ones that crop up too. If you guys want to use buzzwords like whack-a-mole and compare it to the GWOT then fine but it’s pretty disingenuous.
Everyone is jaded and feels snake bitten about military intervention because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and rightfully so, but that doesn’t mean we should never use our military again. The smart thing to do would be to learn from those wars and apply the lessons.
First and foremost don’t stay and try to nation build or win over the population. Get in, kill who you have to kill and get out, preferably with airstrikes or very short raids. Another guy pops up, rinse and repeat. If the local populations in the countries we operate don’t like it then they can put down the cartels themselves. Or not, doesn’t really matter to me.

I don't disagree with you necessarily however I don't think basically waving the white flag is the answer either. It will reduce supply when they know there is no safe haven and the penalty is death. I don't think it should be off the table.
There will always be rats in the cellar but the idea is to keep them out of the main house.

Generally because of regulations and taxes. Like cigarettes. Legal, but the tax stamp is pretty steep in some areas so illegal cigs are a booming business.
Govt inefficiencies allow the black market to flourish.

If I must be taxed to combat the drug trade, I’d rather my dollars go to killing them rather than propping them up with tribute.

Just creates an opportunity for someone else. That market isnt going anywhere and its full of money.

Why is it disingenuous?
We are talking about an indigenous population that we will never be able to fit into, who can hide among the populace with impunity. We will be dealing with constant collateral damage, further promoting domestic protection of the bad guy. Hell, Mexico even has terrain issues (including mountains).
Mexico's government just had effectively a civil war against the cartels and lost, and they are of the same population/culture.

Nobody is making that argument.
We just see how this probably isn't the best operation.

I agree, but the problem is this just means another cartel will form when we leave. Just like what happened immediately after us leaving Afghanistan.

They will keep popping up in perpetuity. I don't know what y'all don't understand about that.

Inside the USA, sure.
I think maybe youre getting it now. Its the demand that makes this market so viable.

You and I are not privy to direct communications between the leaders of our nations, but it is totally plausible that President Sheinbaum secretly wants to U.S. to deal militarily with the cartels but has to publicly say otherwise.
That is entirely plausible.
